My dad was 67 years old when he died in Oct 2002 After my mom died in Nov 2000 he did remarkably well to live alone and do all his chores. He was doing great until Feb 2001. Then we had a 'blip' but he pulled it together again. We stuttered on. We had a major 'blip' August 2001 when LBD was suggested and we started on Zyprexa. Got back on a reasonable keel but paid for extra help with chores etc. Then in 2002 the whole thing got much worse very quickly. Dad needed much more support and although living alone, someone went in everyday - several times a day. Then in May/June 2002 my dad suddenly 'lost' so much functioning it was terrifying. Within a week ( yes, I mean a week!) - lost ability to use the phone - couldn't sequence anything so lost all ability to cook, do laundry, chores, administer tablets. His tremor and jerking was so bad he couldn't dress, shave, toilet, wash, feed himself. Did he wander? Oh yes! He wandered out of hospital and was missing for 6 hours. In the final 3 - 4 weeks, he lost ability to weight bear, was rigid and stiff, lost mobility, had difficulty swallowing and speaking. My dad didn't shred stuff but he picked at things - tiny things - real and imaginary. Hope this helps! You are doing a terrific job . You are the remarkable one - I just repeat what happened to me.
