eye problems with LBD

Hi everyone

I know I haven't been here in a very long time. I have just been so

busy with my daycare I don't have that much time to come on here

anymore. Anyway, my mom is doing pretty good as far as no major

problems lately. However she is having very bad eye problems. Her

eyes have been swollen (the eyelids) and red for a long time now. She

says everything is blurry and she cannot see well at all. She thinks

she is going blind. She has been to the eye doctors numerous times

and they say they dont really know what the problem is. They have

tried diffrent kinds of medications but her head is so far down the

medication is not going in properly and they just don't seem to

acknoledge this.I need to make some phone calls today to see what I

can find out. It sucks cause if I make more appoints for her she ends

up cancelling out. My dad is really trying to care for her and is

getting worn down. She will not let him leave the house she is scared

to death because she can't see well. They can't afford help and they

don't really allow help if we can even get any. I don't want to see

her in a nursing home again and neither does she or my dad.

I guess the problems are just too numerous to mention. What I really

want to know is if anyone else has these type of eye problems.A

friend of mine told me the swollen eyes could be due to congestive

heart failure but she was at the doctors and he didn't say anything.

Her feet are still swollen and her legs, she takes her lasix for this

most of the time but hates peeing so much. Her diapers are costing

over $200 a month and it's a real struggle for my parents. There

insurance just went up a couple of hundred dollars a month and their

share of costs went up also. I know I am getting off track here, I

haven't written in so long, I guess it is getting that time again

where it's becomming overwhelming. Ahhhhhhhhhh, thanks for letting me

vent. I do hope everyone is well I see lots of new names in here, I

hope eventually I can catch up on some of these posts, there must

have been thousands posted since I last came in here. Sandie, and

My mother's eyes were quite irritated this winter and bothered Mom a

lot. I assumed it was allergies, but the redness continued even

after continuous antihistimine eyedrops. Her eye doctor diagnosed it

as blepharitis (eyelid irritation)which had developed a secondary

infection. She prescribed 10 days of antibiotic eye ointment (which

is icky and makes vision blurred but it stays in place longer than

drops) and one use disposable swabs to wash the eyelid several times

daily. She hasn't had of those symptoms since. Hope this helps - Deb--

Hi Shirley

Nice to see you posting again. My mother has eye problems. Her eyes get

red and swollen with sometimes her eyelids looking like there is water under

them sagging down like a blister almost. It comes and goes. Her eyes get

sore because she doesn't have enough tears. She has a drooping eye that was

operated on years ago and it doesn't completely close, but I have heard that

because of the parkinson side of the disease they don't blink enough to keep

the eye lubricated. The doctor says when it drys out it begins to break

down the surface of the eye and becomes a sore. He strongly recommends that

mom have Lacrilube ointment put in daily to relieve the dryness. She lets

me put it in when it is sore and then when it feels better, she doesn't want

it. We have done this pattern with her insisting that she need to see the

doctor (because of the soreness) and I tell her what he said last time

(because she doesn't remember) and then we go through a few healing days and

then it becomes better. I don't know if you are putting anything in for

dryness (drops are nearly effective as you need to put them in all the time)

but this stuff is like a vaseline consistency and comes in a tube. You just

squeeze a line of it in and then they close their eyes for a minute. I

wouldn't do both eyes at the same time as it does make the vision a bit

blurry for awhile, but you could maybe alternate eyes. It might be worth a

try.
