My step daughter was referred to Shriners Children's Hospital for physical

therapy.  Ironically, her therapy is covered by insurance, the reason for the

referral was because they are exceptional in the therapy they provide.  Shriners

does provide services for children who are not covered by insurance.  We did not

end up taking her there simply because it was kinda far for her to go and there

are excellent services available closer to home that our insurance covers.

We are in the Chicago area but Shriners Hospitals are located in many major

cities and provide services free of charge regardless of financial need. They

have an excellent reputation. Here is a link to Shriners home page

(and yes these services are, in part,  " thanks to " the men who wear the funny

little hats and drive the tiny go-carts in your community parades - God Love Um)

Ethan was able to receive a medical card from the state to pay for his therapy.

We did not qualify financially, but we applied for respite and because he

qualified for needing special care, we were able to receive a medical card which

we could then use for his therapy.  The best part of the respite program for us

was that we were able to keep our own babysitter, but now she is paid through a

home health agency instead of out of our pocket.  It has worked out great.

We tried quite a few times to apply for Ethan's medical card and were denied

over and over before one of our therapists told us how to get in through this

back door.
