Chris-

Good for you on getting vocal. 5 sprained ankles in two years seems a little much :-) The stiffness and warmth seem consistent with jra; discoloration only if it's red/pink, not bruised looking. 's swelling has tended to be pretty noticeable, but that doesn't have to be the case (In fact she had a problem with an ankle that I really didn't notice) I'm sure the rheumatologist will tell you to make an appt with a pediatric opthamologist if he decides Kayla has jra, but you may not get a "referral." I can't recall if I had medical records sent to the opthamologist, but if you get a diagnosis of jra, I'm sure she'll want to see Kayla every 3 mos. or so. 's rheumatologist and opthamologist keep each other updated on what's going on with 's condition; they really should work together. Hope you get some answers soon.

Diane- I had to chuckle at the question about two years for the docs

to dx. After 5 " sprained ankles " I had to get some answers! If I

hadn't been a little loud, we probably wouldn't be this far. She has

always had pain in the ankle. One interesting thing, Kayla never has

swelling. Her sed rate was very low. But she does get discoloration

and warmth over that ankle. Mornings are bad for her, and the doc did

notice a limitation in mobility. She also gets stiff when she has

been inactive at any point during the day. She has an appt. with the

ped. rheumatologist March 7th. Would he refer us to an eye doc or

should we go ahead? She has not yet been diagnosed with JRA.

Thanks to all that have replied.

I know all of our kids are so different. But for those of you whose

kids have a Positive ANA that sometime went negative, or lowered for

that matter, do you know/recall what or how it became negative?

This may seem like a crazy question, but Dr G said something in our

last phone consult that I keep thinking about. He said he has seen

kids with a very high ANA (like my son's 1:540 ) become that very

bright when their ANA turns negative. Is this just a function of

over time calming the immune system, the body adjusts? I do not

understand ANA all that well.

Thanks for any input
