Thank you Josie. Your thoughts and prayers are much appreciated. Thought I'd

include in this post the eulogy written by a cousin of mine and a niece of

Colin's, . It is below.

Eulogy for Colin Chapman

Jesus called the children to Him and said,

" Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of

God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who does not receive

the Kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it. "

If anyone has EVER entered the Kingdom of God like a little child, it has to be

Colin!

Colin's mother died 30 years ago and ever since, Colin has been saying, (at the

same time pointing to heaven) " Me, up there soon, Mum. " He's had to wait all

this time to see his mother to whom he was so devoted and she to him as well.

During this time of waiting, Colin never faltered in his uncomplicated, child

like faith in his saviour, Jesus Christ. Colin learnt to love his Lord from his

mother.

Colin has taught us what is most important in life and in death- that is to love

the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your

mind and with all your strength and to love your neighbour as yourself.

As a young boy Colin loved everybody and as he got older especially loved

children and babies. God must have known this as he blessed Colin with 15

nephews and nieces and many more great-nephews and nieces. What's more, he knew

all their names and to which of his brother and 4 sisters they belonged. Colin

had a fantastic memory.

If you didn't know Colin, then he would make himself known to you. He would

NEVER leave a Church without shaking the Minister's hand and would always stay

for the cup of tea. You couldn't walk up Trafalgar Street without Colin saying

hello to many, many people and they in turn would know his name and say hello

back!

As well as loving God, family and people in general, Colin loved to work.

He grew up on a farm and especially enjoyed working in the woolshed or with

animals in the yard. He was also a great rug maker and woe betide anyone who

dared to go near his perfectly cut wool or touch his immaculately tidy and

ordered work table! Colin was so much like his Dad in these respects.

One could not talk about Colin and not mention his love of food-especially

chocolate and a glass of beer. It is not difficult to picture Colin sitting down

with a beer in one hand, the other hand doing the thumbs up sign, a big smile on

his face and saying " That's right! "

He also loved his T.V- which probably originated from the days when his Mum took

him and his sister Enid into town for Enid's music lessons and then often

afterwards a trip to the pictures. He was a great fan of Westerns. Colin is

probably the only person who has ever hung up pictures of Wayne next to

Jesus Christ!

Colin would be one of the few people we've known to get the priorities of life

in God's order

He put God first,

Then his family (whether it be his biological family, Church or I.H.C. family),

And then work.

He has been an example to us, teaching us so much, especially about commitment

and compassion. He has been a gift to us.

Colin's immediate family would like to take this opportunity to thank the people

in the I.H.C, St 's and St Barnabas's Churches for welcoming and

incorporating Colin into your respective families as one of your own.

We have no doubt that Colin was well loved, cared for and respected. We could

not have wished for more than that. We will be forever grateful and thankful.

A special mention must be made of Anita who was that extra special person to

Colin. To our family you have literally been a Godsend. Thank you Anita, words

can't really express what you have meant to us, especially in this last year.

These following words, of Jesus are for you and for all those who have been

involved in caring for and loving Colin.

" I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brother's

of mine, you did for me. "

Colin's family will be thinking of you all here today as you farewell a very

much loved son, brother, uncle, great-uncle and friend.

We would like you to know that we will be gathering next month to hold a

memorial service to celebrate and give thanks for Colin's life. There, we will

share some memories that are special to us.

At this memorial service, Colin's ashes will be placed next to his beloved

mother and father in the Aramoho Cemetry at Wanganui.

Dear anthony:

I am not sure if I sent my condolences to you before. I have kept your uncle

Colin in my prayers, as well as you and your mom. My sympathy goes to you

and your mom. Hugs,

Josie

,

This is beautiful. I like to think that Colin was sitting next to his mom

with a beer and chocolate listening to all the love that people had for him.

Hi

Just wanted to say how sorry I am regarding the passing of your Uncle Colin.

I am glad that you and your mom got to see him before this happened but it

is clear that there was a great relationship between the two all their

lives. The eulogy was beautiful, thank you for sharing it with us. I got

the sense of having known him despite the fact that we had never met. Hugs

to you, your mom and Sandie.
