My dad had all these symptoms as well. His head became fixed in a position

that could not be changed after death. I am not sure if we were called too

late after he died, my mom said his head and mouth were like that when she left

him, alive.

Ann,

We never experienced the hyperactivity you describe with my dad,

however in his last two months, we have several days of complete coma-

like sleep. His parkinson's symptoms were even calm...sometimes

without meds. In his final days, this was his state as well. In Dad's

case, I believe he still recognized his family.

Hope this helps with your question.

Wishing you strength.

Lynn

Dear Anne

Ditto Josie - what she wrote is practically a carbon copy of my dad's final

3 weeks.

My dad was like a skeleton and I noticed his head was kind of cocked

backwards. His breathing changed. It became very shallow and whispery - also

quite rapid at times.

It is VERY difficult to know if these are the final days/weeks.

We are never prepared -I think death always catches us unawares.

You're in my prayers

Ann, i don't know if you remeber but this was the reason i came to the group.

My granda started to do this for several hours up to 24hrs and couldn't be

roused at all but was receptive to pain,it's called catatonic states and came as

my granda entered the final stage of the illness.

Hope this helps

.x

Some of you newer members may not know about my sister-in-law Marti (the

reason I started this list). But for the first time in quite a while, I

have a question for some of you who have experienced the last stages of LBD.

Marti was first diagnosed in the summer of 2000. For the past two years

she's been bedridden, and hasn't recognized anyone for the past year. Her

conversation is unintelligible babbling. Her arms and hands are severely

contracted. Yesterday, however, there was something new. For the past

month, she's been hyperactive (not physically, but her babbling was pretty

much non-stop. Then yesterday, she fell asleep and couldn't be awakened for

several hours. (almost coma-like, and her contracted muscles completely

relaxed)

Has anyone experienced this sort of behavior? Are we perhaps entering the

final stages?

Ann

Welcome to LBDcaregivers.
