Kathy,

It's the email program you use that can do it. I currently use

Eudora, but Outlook can do it also. I don't know what program Macs

use, but I'm sure it's more than capable. On my program, it is

under Tools: Filters.

You can specify a rule for the sender, message title, whatever.

Hope that helps.

How do you direct specific emails into a separate folder? and specify

different colors? Is that a one box thing or can any email do that? I

have .mac, but I probably don't know 1/100th of what I can do with

it.

Wow, Kathy, that must be quite a shock to read about.

As far as managing email, it is overwhelming sometimes. I do have

the list-serve emails go into a separate folder, and have emails from my

patients labeled green, so I don't miss them. But it is

definitely an ongoing challenge.

Don't underestimate what you've accomplished over the past year.

I think that safety is quite

important, esp. as a no staff IMP. One could ask a family member or

friend to hang out when you have someone in the office that you don't

know. I try not to schedule new male patients or patients that I think

might be drug seekers when I am alone in the building.

What do others do for safety measures?

I am in a practice with another woman and we were without staff for about

4 years. We now have a male office manager and we try to schedule new

patients and patients that make of nervous when he is around-as he works

part time.

It might be that you will just have to restrict new patients to hours

during the day. New practitioners seem to attract drug seekers as they

don't know if you are an easy mark yet.

I usually won't schedule a new patient that has a " pain "

problem for 1-2 weeks and then I tell them that I don't prescribe

scheduled drugs on the first appointment unless I have previous records

and then itis dubious. We haven't taken new patients for awhile, so I

don't have to worry about it much.

I started an aesthetic practice last year and discovered that it a

totally different clientele. Sometimes it is difficult to distinguish

people that problems with body dysmorphic syndrome from the average

" I just don't like how I look " syndrome that most of us have. I

saw a young man several weeks ago that was unusually self conscious and

displeased with his appearance and I recommended that he wait on any

significant aesthetic procedures until he had some counseling. He had

been to counseling and psychiatrists in the past, although he didn't tell

why. He made me a bit nervous, so I had my office manager hang out near

the door while I visited with him. The visit went surprisingly well and

he seemed to think about my advice and didn't get angry. Imagine my shock

and surprise when he was ont he front page of the paper 10 days later for

killing his mother. I think that he most likely had untreated paranoid

schizophrenia.

By the way, how do the rest of you manage the deluge of emails? I love

this listserve, but It overwhelms me at times. I am just getting back to

the listserv after 4-5 months of email strike. I cleared the deck of

about 4-5000 emails last weekend. I can only imagine that it would be

even worse with one box, as then there would be even more email to

review.

I am hoping to be a better organized, happier, more competent, and while

I am wishing, smarter, better looking and well paid this coming

year.
