Guest guest Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 Sara, Thanks, yes, OK, I'm prepared. I told my Hub last night about the two appointments fairly close together, so he'd be ready for that. Do you go to the Doc's office for the blood draw or do you have to find another location? The timing on this for me couldn't be much worse. We are paying for college, UT, and a wedding, May 28. It's far and expensive, but it just can't be helped. If I can think of the questions, I will ask. Usually questions come to me later, slow processing. Thanks, Carol Dr. visits Carol - Just an fyi for you about Dr. 's appointments. (At least it was this way when I went - be sure to have your DH double check this with the staff.) He has you come the first time over a two-day period. One day you have a long consult. The next morning is the blood draw and you go home. Then you must come back in two weeks, I think, for the long consult on all the blood work, his analysis and his recommendations for you. It takes time for some of the test results to get back to him. Quite a few are done. Then he will let you know when he wants to see you again. It varies depending on your case. I went back in 6 months (followed by another 6 months and now it's 9 months), others have gone back in 3 month intervals. In between visits, you can call , his medical assistant, with your questions. Just be sure to ask all the questions you want. There are no dumb questions! I asked a lot and still do, and they are very helpful and considerate about it. Quote
Guest guest Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 Carol, worst case scenario, you could do what I did, but will come out ok... My first trip to Lubbock was alone (I'm a single mom) and I was so exhausted and foggy, I could barely function. But I managed to make my flight connections and get there and back home (although I almost got on the wrong shuttle to the hotel...that would have been fun). That was the longest, hardest trip of my life (you guys remember big sweaty drunk Bubba Lubbock that sat next to me on the plane and reeked of yesterday's alcohol so bad it made me retch the entire flight???). The followup trip, my son drove me...he still makes fun of me about the stupid things I said and did that trip...I was so out of it! I had my little notebook and took notes on what Dr. R had to say...and the notebook was never to be seen again. We still have no clue where it landed! I was given a stack of prescriptions, and made it home with NOT all of them...hmmm...I was living in a black hole during that phase! But Dr. R's office has been great...they are wonderful about answering questions, repeating instructions over and over, holding my hand, etc, etc... You're on the right path, and his staff will work with you to fill in any gaps along the way. As far as hotel, I stayed at Lubbock Inn. It's walking distance to Dr. R's office, so I don't have to wait on a shuttle, so that makes it convenient. They have free wireless internet, which is my source of entertainment in a hotel room (I'm not a TV watcher). The food wasn't great, but that's not a real priority for me. The rooms are just ok...the second trip, I think most of the light bulbs were shot in the room. But I'm pretty low maintenance...as long as it's not nasty dirty, I can get online, and the price is right, I'm pretty satisfied. Niki > > > > > Sara, > > > > Thanks, yes, OK, I'm prepared.
