Has anyone seen diarrhea associated with this? How about diarrhea

during die off on valtrex? What did you do about it? Did it subside

when the HHV-6 came down? How long did that take?

Thanks! We have been struggling with this for 6 months.

My son had " bowel issues " (usually too soft/off-colored) since he started

showing signs of illness/odd behaviors. His bowels have become normal through

the protocol with Dr. Goldberg (we started October 2002, and with an

antiviral the end of November of that year.) His HHV-6 at the highest was over

1200 and now it's down to 320. We recently increased the Famvir dosage to three

times a day (from twice) to hopefully lower this high number into something

healthier. He did have a die-off period, including gas and loose stools, about

the second week and it lasted about one week.

When we first started an anti-viral we used Valtrex and it was a similar

timing/situation- the odd bowel issues were worse for less than a week.

Then again, during the die-off when we switched to Famvir because Valtrex wasn't

working well enough (based on HHV-6 lab testing.)

As long as you are treating the HHV-6 with the proper dosage for your child's

size and continue treatment for the appropriate time you should see great

results.

Regular lab work-ups are very important to monitor the immune system but I'll

leave that for the more technical people to comment on. :)

Thanks alot ! What was the reference range for your hhv6 testing? Do

you believe that your son will always need the antiviral?

I really appreciate your post. We are just getting started with thru

the clinic in Watertown, NY.

Glad I could help.

The reference range for my son's HHV-6 testing was 1:20 being normal. At his

last test he was 1:320.

We will be testing again this month and expect the numbers will be down even

more (he is doing well behaviorally/language-wise and the dark circles around

his eyes are finally improving.)

Hopefully he won't need the antiviral forever, haven't heard a yes or no either

way. We will be stopping the antifungal next week- that was the medicine we

started with in October 2002 (though a different medication than what he is on

now.)
