Guest guest
Hi Steve, My 17 year old daughter has Still's. There is a complication of Still's that my daughter got that is called macrophage activation syndrome(MAS). One of the symptoms is extremely low platelets. Sometimes triglycerides will skyrocket with it, too. It is a very RARE complication of Still's, but can be deadly. I am not saying that is what your wife has, but it was in n's case. The treatment is high dose cyclosporine and steroids. n received 1000mg steroids a day for five days with high dose cyclosporine. This is typically the treatment for MAS. When n was admitted to a large Children's Hospital, no one had ever heard of MAS before, only her pediatric rheumatologist. You might want to google it for more info. Guest guest
Hello Steve I am sorry to hear that your wife is ill at the moments. When I was first diagnosed with stills, I was also in hospital and although I was too ill to know what was happening, my husband told me that they gave me actual platelets intraveniously when they couldn't get the count up and it worked. Can't really tell you more, but hope it may be of some help. Hope your wife recovers soon. Best wishes Joan U.K. _____ From: Stillsdisease [mailto:Stillsdisease ] On Behalf Of Steve Sent: 27 November 2006 16:04 To: stillsdiseaseYahoogroups Subject: ITP - Low Platelets My wife who has recently been dxed with stills was hospitalized wednesday with extremely low platelet count (ITP) She's being given IGG, prednisone, and some transfusions, and still no rise in platelets. Anyone with experience in this problem? Thanks, Steve
