Guest guest
Dear Shona, Dr. Goldberg recommends Dr. Fosmot. I'm going to see her myself this spring when I go to CA to see Goldberg. I know a mom who has taken her daughter to several local (TX) speech therapists and she was not happy with the results. But she was VERY impressed with Dr. Fosmot. Dr. Fosmot has seen several of Dr. G's kids. She recommends curriculums and computer programs so that you can do the therapy at home. She's pricey and like Dr. G, they don't file insurance for you so you pay in full at the visit. Insurance may reimburse you though. In case you're interested, her number is (818) 884-9110 and her evaluation is 2 hours long, Thursdays only and cost $800. That mom I mentioned before said this woman is worth every penny. Hope this helps. Best of luck to you! April which route should we take??? > Hi all! We are going back to Dr. G's office in March for a follow > up. Guest guest
This is just just my opinion, but I think a floortime or RDI approach for young children is a CRITICAL component of any program. Actually, RDI and floortime don't necessarily target language, but language is often a wonderful outcome of the relatedness these interventions promote. My son was doing miserably in speech therapy with very little progress until we started a floortime approach. It's hard to say because we were doing so many things sequentially, but I credit it for helping him jump start language. We do a home program in Verbal Behavior which is also a very child-friendly approach (I highly recommend you attend a Vince Carbone conference). Most parents are so anxious to see speech that they overlook the necessary prerequesites -- joint attention, regulation, ability to imitate, etc. I don't think it has to be RDI, but I would definitely have an affect- based program onboard (floortime, RDI, Hanen's More Than Words).
