The tube pierces the membrane and allows the med to go straight to the infection. Next time I will ask about injection and the gut. Guest guest
Kim, This is true. Antibiotic ear drops only work if there are tubes or a perforation with drainage. I used to work for an ENT for years before my son was born. I would definitely prefer the Rocephin over the oral antibiotic. It makes sense to me that since the antibiotic is injected into the leg muscle instead of digested in the gut it would have to be easier on an already leaky gut. Bless your heart. You guys sure have had a time of it lately. Guest guest
The mainstream guy may be rude, but he is right about the drops. They are only useful for otitis externa (an ear canal infection or swimmers ear) or if your child has tubes in his ear. You have to have oral or injectable antibiotics for middle ear infections. An injectable antibiotic will still affect the gut in the long run but not near as much as an oral one. What I was taught in med school though, is that most ear infections are viral and not bacterial. So…you treat with fever and pain reducers for 24 to 48 hours and if the problem is still there, then it is more likely bacterial and then you go in for the antibiotics. He's just not my favorite doc for a few reasons. Our personalities don't click, we always argue about vaccines, oh, and my personal favorite; he slapped my daughter on the back with his clipboard when he was checking her for scoliosis because she wasn't " doing it right " ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo!
