Guest guest
Hi Shona, We have United Healthcare also and had a neurospect done last year at Santa . According to the plan we have, they paid 90% of the " amount allowed, " so we wound up paying about $175 in the end. My son also was put under for the procedure. You just call the nuclear medicine dept. & make the appt.--Dr. G's office can give you the number. Tell them when scheduling that you will be seeing Dr. G on whatever date you have scheduled and request that the neurospect be scheduled at a time--probably at least 1 day before the appt.--so that you can have the results at the Dr. G appt. Ask the person you make the appt. with if you can get an idea of what it will run. They will probably ask you when you schedule the appt. if your child will need to be sedated or put under. HTH, Heidi questions about neurospect scans Hi all! Dr. Goldberg has asked us to have a neurospect scan done on at least one of the kids while we're in CA in March. The two places the office gave us to have these done are Harbor and Santa . This may be an ignorant question....but here goes. Is the actual name of the place UCLA Harbor or is it just Harbor? Our insurance didn't have a Harbor Hospital listed in their network. For those of you who have had this done, which place is the best? Our insurance company, United Healthcare, said that they would cover 100% of " reasonable " charges. How in the world do I know what is reasonable and what's not? Will they give you a price quote when you call to set it up? How difficult is it to get these set up? It'll have to be a sedated scan as neither of my children could be still for that length of time. Help, PLEASE!!!! I'd like to get all of this set up during the next week. Thanks! Guest guest
Shona, Ben had a neurospect at UCLA Santa and had anesthesia for it. Try to schedule for as early in the day as possible (the child cannot eat or drink for 6-7 hours before the anesthesia) and be prepared to stay in recovery for several hours. That day is totally shot. The anesthesia they use is very safe (much more safe than the stuff used for the ear tubes even) but it takes a long while for the child to " wake up. " The anesthesiologist explained to me that he can be very accurate with this new type of IV anesthesia and when he stops administering it is out of the system almost instantaneously. But a side effect is that it makes the child very sleepy. Seems like we waited about 3 hours for Ben to wake up (and the procedure only took about 45 minutes). You'll also need a written " ok " from the child's pediatrician saying that s/he is healthy enough to have the anesthesia. I think the administering Dr.'s (Dr. Uszler in our case) office has a form for this. Be sure and have everything pinned down ahead of time. In our case, Uszler's office was kind of lax in making sure we knew everything to do ahead of time (signed form from ped, no food or water 6 hours before). Luckily, Heidi helped walk us through it - even mailed me a map. Guest guest
He ordered it on Chaia because although she's made progress, she's just not where we want her to be right now. She's had a lot of trouble the past few months and hasn't made much progress. He's hoping that the neurospect will give him a better idea of what direction to take with her next. I'm waiting on his office to contact me to let me know if he wants one on Skyler or not.
