I also have OCD, and some sort of weird variant of colitis. We all got worse during a relentless bout of strep Iat least three rounds of antibiotics for all of us) the summer before last. My generally mild OCD got wayyyyyyyyy out of control, I haven't been the same since. I really believe for us, the is triggered and worsened by each bout of strep. OK, probably too much info LOL. Guest guest
We're a family. My son (5 years old, only child so far) is a patient of Dr. Goldberg. My mom has Fibromyalgia/both types of arthritis/asthma/allergies. My mother-in-law has fibro/type 2 diabetes(is that linked? If so, father-in-law has type 2, along with a grandfather on both mine and my husband's side.) Nephew (only child) on husband side has " X-LA " (he has NO immune system and has to get blood monthly for the anti-bodies. This isn't , but another immune system issue hereditary from the mother's genes. He is completely typical functioning, maybe higher than his age because of what he has to deal with.) One niece, one nephew, and a possible second nephew of one of my sister's all have autistic spectrum disorders (out of four children). I've dealt with OCD/anxiety/depression/social shyness since childhood. I was a milk-o-holic/dairy-freak until about a year ago when I quit milk. Still in the process of cutting everything else dairy out- I " m about 90% dairy-free and feel LOTS better. Also have to be careful about sugar/junk food (can you say mood swing?) :0) My brother has learning disabilities that now-a-days would most likely be considered ADD/ADHD. I guess my two older sisters are " okay. " My husband skydives- that has to mean something's wrong. - in AL Reality lies beyond the horizon... Guest guest
I have had ulcerative colitis since I was 20 and have had OCD and a mild version of Tourette's since childhood. Diet changes and Zoloft ;-) have helped with all of them. My dad struggled with CFIDS for 3-4 years. He's been recovered for 7-8 years now. My maternal grandmother was bi-polar and also probably had Tourette's. My older sister, who is NT and a very healthy adult, nevertheless was a very sickly child who suffered from mutiple food allergies (including milk), eczema, hay fever, frequent colds, ear infections, and tonsilitis. She also somehow contracted a staph infection which lasted several months. (Sorry, probably too much information). My sister-in-law has never been formally diagnosed, but there's no doubt (even in her own opinion) that she has Asperger's. And my husband and mother-in-law also have very strong Asperger's traits, although neither is as affected as my SIL, who has very noticable social deficits and behavioral oddities. Guest guest
While my eldest son is the first on either side of our family to have any behavioural issues, our family is wrought with auto/neuro immune diseases. I had CFS about 15 years ago during which time, after a severe accident developed RSD (Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy) which is a neuro immune disease that involves neuropathic pain issues and can be systemic. My sister has been diagnosed with Narcolepsy/Cataplexy and my 1st cousin has MS. In some ways while my son has many huge hurdles to overcome, I am thankful that the early behavioural stuff led us to the PDD label which brought us to Dr. Goldberg. I shudder to think where his physical/mental/emotional future would be if we were not addressing some of the physical triggers now...i.e. diet and viral sensitivities. I so believe that the behavioural stuff is just symptoms of something more serious going on physically.
