Kaivey: Were you taking an SSRI/SNRI when you took 5HTP, or was it

post-SSRI/SNRI?

Do you take an anxiolytic for your GAD, like Clonazepam or some other

benzo?

All I can say is that when I took 5 HTP it killed my sex drive even further although it took about 4 or 5 days to start to have this effect. I found 5 HTP to be unpleasant and it put me in a dream world for a few days. After that it stopped working and my body seemed to completely adapt to it so I stopped taking it.

No, I took an SSRI for a few months and then I swapped to nefaxodone for a few

months and then PSSD struck. Years later I tried 5 HTP which gave me raging

tinitus and then after that I took Triptophan for week which was quite effective

at first but then it stopped working after about a week.

I would never take anxiolytic, or anything for my GAD. If you read

Whitaker's book, you will find that tranquilisers only work for 4 weeks and then

they make anxiety worse for most people. After 6 weeks on these drugs some

people start develping depression, and panic disorder, things they never had

before. See, the brain is neuroplastic and will try to oppose any change that is

being forced on it so people taking thse meds will satrt getting anxious again,

and sometimes it will be worse than ever. People carrying on taking these meds,

though, believing that they help, but all they are doing is fighting off

withdrawal symptoms which will be terryfying.

In the Xanax trails, after 8 weeks most people were suffering more anxiety than

those in the placebo group. And many developped panic disorder or depression for

the first time. Worse still, 42% were never able to come off these drugs and

remained addictd for life.

Upjophn, who make Zanax, hid the data for the last for weeks of the trail and

only published the first four weeks. This drug went on to cause widespread

addiction and misey for millions of people.

You might have good experiences with these meds, but the odds are, for most

people, these drugs will only make things worse.

I read that tryptophan itself won't cross the blood-brain barrier.

I've taken Clonazepam for 13 years. It's helped make me a more normal

person. (And now that I seem to be done with withdrawal symptoms from

getting off Effexor, I'm beginning to think it was the Clonazepam that

was heping me all those 13 years, and the Effexor was doing nothing.) I

don't belittle myself, I don't feel that I'm unworthy to be on this

earth, the way I felt before I started taking Clonazepam. And I've been

a lot less suicidal. I must be one of Whitaker's exceptions. I don't

think my brain is faking how I feel.

Xanax, however, is a different story. I started on it before the

Clonazepam, but the half-life is so short, it's like needing a fix after

it wears off. I forgot to take 2 in a row once and had a very

interesting psychotic reaction. I think they should take Xanax off the

market.
