Guest guest
WEll done Christy, I was a mess before going in and went metal once on the table as i saw what my blood pressure and was yelling i am going to stroke out and die lol.. ( i work with Stroke and brain injury vic's) It took me a good 8 to 10 weeks to be able to do good exercise, that is what my doctor told me to do, walking was ok but lifting and pushing etc was to be careful as your port is stiched in and you dont want to twist it etc. Everyones port is in a different place once you have your first fill you will be able to find it, to this day i still cant feel mine and i know were the spot is, take it easy and let yourself recover Jay > > Thanks everyone for your kind words of support. Guest guest
Hey Christie, I don't know about anyone else, but I did not really find mine for awhile... Until I had lost a bit of weight. Now I feel it all the time and although its foreign it doesn't bother me.. But sometimes I wonder if I could have felt it as much as I do now after losing 40 odd kilos it may have freaked me out a bit ! Also, I started Curves about 3 weeks after the op and just felt stronger and stronger all the time. To all: Just wondering as I have not been to any get togethers yet or met anyone... Does anyone live near Pennant Hills and/goes to Fitness First??? -- OP complete & back home Thanks everyone for your kind words of support. I'm glad I'm not the only one to freak out just before. Guest guest
Congratulations Christy!! I can feel my port sometimes - but it's still buried in there! *laughs* I was back at the gym 3 weeks after the surgery...but just take it easy, listen to your body and go at your own pace. I think I went back as early as I did because I was worried if I stopped too long, I'd lose momentum and wouldn't start again. If this is you, then I would go and just go through the motions if you feel up to it so that you can re-establish your routine. But it's your body and you know best. All the best with your recovery. Take it easy. Kate.
Guest guest
Christy, I had my band done about 8 weeks ago, my surgeon puts the port just below the breasts in the middle and I have always been able to feel mine but my understanding is that different surgeons put it in different places. My surgeon was at Penrith. Guest guest
Hi Liz I'm going through Dr as well. did you have any problems or concerns with him? Besides him not having much of a sense of humour he seems pretty good. And its reassuring he's had it done himself. > > Christy, I had my band done about 8 weeks ago, my surgeon puts the port just > below the breasts in the middle and I have always been able to feel mine but > my understanding is that different surgeons put it in different places. Guest guest
Christy, I have found Dr really good, but you are right he does not really have a sense of humour, and seems a little reserved. I had always taken either my husband or best friend to each meeting with him for moral support but last week I went for my first fill on my own and he was just so different. I don’t know if it was just a coincidence or maybe he prefers one on one, I would be interested to hear what you think. The reason I picked Dr was partly that he had had a band put in about 4 years ago and because he has a very good reputation as a general upper gastric surgeon and I felt that was really important also I liked the idea that he does seems to make sure that his patients have fully explored all options and meet his criteria, this attitude made me even surer that I was making the right choice. I did not want to go to a surgeon that seemed more interested in how many he could do rather than doing them for the right reason. In answer to your other note I can probably eat an entrée sized meal and have not had any problems with PB, I seem to get a little pain if I am eating to quickly or not chewing enough and then if I stop eating for a couple of minutes I can finish my meal. Lots of chewing and going slowly seems to work. I was really worried about having a sense of loss from not being able to eat whatever, whenever and how much I wanted but have not found this a problem at all in fact my focus now seems to have gone from how much can I cook to cooking lots of different meals with a much greater variety of tastes. I also find that if I am feeling hungry and this is very rarely just a tiny amount of something that is tasty makes the moment pass, I am finding that one nut or a tiny bit of someone’s biscuit satisfies me. I have found that my life is changing but I am enjoying my food much more quality is now more important than quantity. I still have to work out how to manage eating out with people who do not know about the band but this does not worry me as much now as it did before I had the operation. I have only told those people who are close to me and have only found support. Hope the above is of some help, I seem to have gone on and on.
