Guest guest Posted April 30, 2006 Report Posted April 30, 2006 Weight sure can be stubborn. I got optimized, but couldn't shake the weight. I ended up going low carb and I have made progress. I also began exercising, but being optimized was a critical first step. I have been optimized a year. In a very good month, I might lose 4 pound. Some months nothing at all. So hang in there. It will take time. sle816@... wrote: I have been on the compounded t4 for about 2.5 weeks. I haven't noticed anything much really, except I have started gaining weight. This has happened to me everytime I have tried straight t4 of any kind. I am not sure why. I called Dr. O and told him I wanted to go up on my armour and d/c the t4. So now I am at 2.5 gr. armour. This darned weight is stubborn. I have been on weight watchers for 9 weeks and lost 1.4 lbs! frustrating!!! Anyway. I did order Dr. Kittley's book because it sounded interesting "Obesity's Answer" . Jan you are reading it. Do you think it's worthwhile? Anyway. I'll let you know about the results for my latest increase and the book. steph Quote
Guest guest Posted April 30, 2006 Report Posted April 30, 2006 I have not read very much of it yet. I don't think I will follow the diet because of the restrictions on dairy and beef. I don't eat fish, lamb or beans, and am more allergic to chicken than to beef. That does not leave much as protein sources. But there is a lot of food for thought here. I like the avoidance of processed foods and the elimination of possible allergens. I also like the one day a week when anything goes. Right now, I am working on adding more veggies. Let us know what you think of it. As for increasing your Armour, getting all of your SEX and adrenal hormones optimized will go a long way in helping you to tolerate a higher dose. I find it strange that Dr. O will not prescribe the sex hormones, as the hormones all work together, and every change in one part of the system demands a change in all of the others. sle816@... wrote: I have been on the compounded t4 for about 2.5 weeks. Guest guest Posted April 30, 2006 Report Posted April 30, 2006 He does prescribe sex hormones. I don't know why he wouldn't to the other person! He has me on hydrocortisone; compounded estradiol and a troche of estrone and testosterone. steph Quote
Guest guest Posted April 30, 2006 Report Posted April 30, 2006 As you say one change affects the others. I am having trouble with my bladder now. It doesn't seem to empty all the way. anyone else have this problem..is it thyroid related. I know it can be related to estrogen levels. When mine get too low, I can't pee. steph Quote
Guest guest Posted April 30, 2006 Report Posted April 30, 2006 Has he stopped prescribing sex hormones? He had me on tri-est, and possibly progesterone (can't remember) last summer. Guest guest Posted April 30, 2006 Report Posted April 30, 2006 I've researched IC and that may be what I have....but I think stress, hormones and diet play a heavy role in my symptoms from what I can tell. Quote
Guest guest Posted April 30, 2006 Report Posted April 30, 2006 I have Insterstitial Cystitis, which is an inflammation of the bladder and urethra. The bladder does not completely empty and feels irritated (much like having a UTI). I know this is common with endometriosis (which I have) but have not read any relation to the thyroid, but, I would not be suprised. It all seems to be related to me. Guest guest Posted April 30, 2006 Report Posted April 30, 2006 The bladder lining has receptors for T3 and estrogen. I never had a diagnosis of IC, but my irritable bladder was relieved soon after I started Armour. Cauley wrote: I have Insterstitial Cystitis, which is an inflammation of the bladder and urethra. Guest guest Posted April 30, 2006 Report Posted April 30, 2006 My problem is a dropped bladder. It sometimes keeps me awake at night running to the bathroom. It seems the later in the day it gets, the worse it gets. Guest guest Posted April 30, 2006 Report Posted April 30, 2006 I am very interested in seeing how Armour helps my IC. I would love to get off of Detrol LA and Elmiron. Detrol is a class C drug, so I have to get off soon so that we can do an embryo transfer, but I can't until my bladder inflamation resides. Re: compounded t4 As you say one change affects the others. Guest guest Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 I , too have heard that bladder problems can improve once one is on the correct dose of thyroid meds. steph Quote
Guest guest Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 I would hold off on an fertility procedures. Armour is known for getting women pregnant. One of our members had been going to Dr. Vliet, the hormone guru. She was on all kinds of bio-identical hormones and synthetic T3 and T4. Did not get pregnant. Then she went to one of our local docs who is not even a very good doc, but he gave her Armour. She got pregnant in 6 months and gave birth to a healthy child. Guest guest Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 Dr. Ozan was going to Rx bio-id hormones for me last year, but I had been having dysfunctional uterine bleeding resulting in really severe anemia and he felt that all of my “female” issues should be handled by a gynecologist who would also Rx the hormones I needed. I hate having to go to yet another MD and would have preferred to stay with him for everything, but I really do believe that he is using very sound judgment and is trying to do what is best for me. However, he still will monitor all of my hormone levels, thyroid, sex, etc. very closely when I am symptomatic and cannot get the tests done regularly enough by the Gyn. I was mad at him at first, but when common sense prevailsed, I knew that if I were in his shoes, I would not want to take any chances by over stepping my bounds.
