Guest guest
I received a sil-pat silicone rolling pin for Christmas. It's a nice quality, heavy rolling pin and its selling point is that nothing sticks to it. I can't recall the last time I used a rolling pin, but it's still a nice thing to have on hand. I thought that silicone bakeware was one of the safer synthetic materials to use w/food. Is that true? However, it has a *strong* odor, similar to paint fumes. (Well, the odor is strong if you put your nose down to it. From a regular distance, I can't smell it.) The odor's a big turn off. I washed it gently w/soap and water & the odor remains. I've been getting away from anything synthetic, but, shoot, I kinda like this rolling pin. What do you all think re: food safety issues w/it? Thanks,

And there I was just about to take it off 's hands. DANG! BTW - ... the last time I watched TTT was at the same time that a discussion regarding raw meat was going hot and heavy on the list - I saw that line and rewound several times to repeat it because I was laughing so hard. But you beat me to the sig. DANG!!!! (p.s. it's " Smeagol " - I think) :-D MFJ Our gods are dead. Ancient Klingon warriors slew them a millennia ago. Guest guest
, I would take a guess that the smell you notice is the " outgassing " . I personally would help it outgas quickly if you intend to use it. Put it in sunlight, warm it up to the hottest tempature safe for it, lots of ventilation.... The idea is that the wamer it gets, the faster it outgasses...therefore lots of ventilation needed. The more it outgasses this way, the less it will outgas sitting in your drawer, or into your food. I leave the rest of the question of whether it is safe to people who are not chemically sensitive! Catz > > However, it has a *strong* odor, similar to paint fumes.
