Guest guest Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 I told Dr Cohen I was on hydrocortisone and he seemed puzzled. Even though he was the one who did the adrenal saliva test. Then he told me the only way to really know is with an ACTH test??? ?Can you comment?>> Steph Quote
Guest guest Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 Did you ever get an appointment with Dr. Ozan? Or is Dr. Marcos running these tests? Not very many folks have to have surgery for adrenal tumors. Most often adrenal fatigue is just that: fatigue. No physical change in the adrenal glands, no tumors, just fatigue. The 24-hour urine is not very good for detecting adrenal fatigue. It shows almost everyone to be normal. 8 am and 4 pm cortisol blood tests or even saliva tests will tell you more. Unless you are one of the very few who have tumors, the treatment is physiologic doses of hydrocortisone. If you want to learn more, get the book: The Safe Uses of Cortisol. There is a link to the publisher on our site. cowgirlgrams wrote: Jan, What is the best way to go about treating adrenals so I won't be in the dark if I do have adrenal problems be it tumors or adrenal fatique? I am doing the 24 hour urine collection test today. They took blood work yesterday for cortisol levels, C-reactive protein (because of the heart pounding and burning sensation in my body), homosysteine, cbc. They said they are testing to see if have any tumors on my adrenals. Treating that is removing the tumors....but what other treatments are there and what do you find the best way to treat the different adrenal issues? Yahoo! Autos. Looking for a sweet ride? Guest guest Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 I know I'm not Jan but a salvia test is a better test. The blood is only checking for Cushing's or 's. If you don't have those but have adrenal fatigue they will miss it. Just my two cents. Guest guest Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 You are absolutely 100% right about the standard blood tests Kate! Those ranges are ONLY geared for the most deadly end of either situation, and that's why (when I DO get them done) it will be the saliva tests. From everything I've read every single place, I would trust the saliva tests more than any blood test for this. Re: Jan....treating adrenals > I know I'm not Jan but a salvia test is a better test. Guest guest Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 The 24 hr urine test for this problem is only going to show a full amt of what's been going on, altogether, over a 24 hr period, not what's been going on at specific times. It won't show highs, lows, peeks, and valleys at all. I can't even believe that doctors still use this testing for this, but they do. Guest guest Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 Exactly! If you are low in the am as most adrenal fatigue people are, you will be told you are " normal " . Guest guest Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 Great...I am doing the 24 hour urine collection right now. Had to take it to the emergency room with me today and they put it on ice for me since it had to be refrigerated. I didn't want to waste the time in doing what I had already done so took it with me today incase I had to stay in the hospital. And wanted to get the results back. My head feels like it is so much full of air type feeling and wants to explode. I think I am going to have quite a time with the dizziness during the night. It's been hard trying to get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom without falling over. During the day I am just light headed and not dizzy where the room is spinning. I can hardly cope with this. More later.... > >The 24 hr urine test for this problem is only going to show a full amt of > >what's been going on, altogether, over a 24 hr period, not what's been going > >on at specific times. Guest guest Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 To me, this sounds like an inner ear problem. I've had all the vertigo/dizziness/nausea/falling over and such from coming up from a lying or sitting position only to hit the floor. The position changes are so nauseating. I went on and one like that for weeks and weeks, can you believe. It started one morning when I got out of bed, and I have the permanent earringing. Do you have the earringing, can't remember whether that was you or not? Re: Jan....treating adrenals > Great...I am doing the 24 hour urine collection right now. Guest guest Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 Jan, we were talking about the 24 hour urine test. That test will not show the highs and lows, just average. If you are low in the am and " normal " in the afternoon the average will be normal. I'm talking about the majority of doctors not the 1-2% that know what they are doing. Those won't use the urine test. Kate At 09:51 PM 2/14/2006, you wrote: >Not if the doc really knows what he is doing. > >Kate Guynn wrote: >Exactly! Guest guest Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 I agree that the 24 hour urine test is useless. A doc who understands adrenal issues can use just an 8 am cortisol and information gathered by talking to the patient to diagnose and treat.Kate Guynn wrote: Jan, we were talking about the 24 hour urine test. Guest guest Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 I have tinnitis due to exposure to loud noises. She could very well have an inner ear problem. wrote: To me, this sounds like an inner ear problem. Guest guest Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 The trouble with the blood tests, though, is that if a doctor doesn't understand the difference between 's, adrenal fatigue, and Cushing's, then if that thing comes up in "normal" range, a person won't get treated. Dr. understands this, but soooo many see it only as an either or thing. Re: Jan....treating adrenals I agree that the 24 hour urine test is useless. Guest guest Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 Most docs just flat will not Rx cortisone, because they are afraid of it. If they do not understand how to use it, it is better that they do not Rx it. wrote: The trouble with the blood tests, though, is that if a doctor doesn't understand the difference between 's, adrenal fatigue, and Cushing's, then if that thing comes up in "normal" range, a person won't get treated. Guest guest Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 Which leads me to say it is the ONLY profession where the service giver doesn't have to know his/her stuff in order to make money. Plus it is the only profession where the customer generally accepts this, pays for the services they didn't get, and then turns around and goes back for more! Ridiculous, ALways ridiculous, I won't budge on this. Re: Jan....treating adrenals Most docs just flat will not Rx cortisone, because they are afraid of it.
