Jan,

I have had several cystoscopy's. Like you, I just feel like that orifice should be left alone. My cystoscopy's were a 10 on the pain scale as I have interstitial cystitis (which I think you do too) and my urethra is always inflamed and took 3 days to recover from. Every time I peed I hit the ceiling. One dr. liked to perform a urethral dilation every 3 months....I ran like crazy as they hurt me as bad as a cystoscopy.

Alien Abduction? OT

I have never been abducted by aliens, but I had an experience today that was not unlike a close encounter of the fourth kind, you know the one that involves hideous experiments on your limp but not lifeless body. . . .

I lay supine on a table with what used to be my private parts-they are now "public parts" after today-being inspected and probed by three beings, ostensibly a doctor and two nurses, all at one time. I think it was really two Greys and a Reptilian. The Reptilian explained the pain scale to me. 0 is no pain. 10 is torture by Saddam Hussein. He then said, "This procedure is a 2." Well, it was more like a 4 or 5, and that was with a numbing gel. I screamed out numbers like curses as he invaded an orifice that is not used to getting any attention at all.

When he finally withdrew his instrument of torture, he said, "Everything looks lovely. There is nothing wrong with your bladder."

I vow not to ever have a cystoscopy again any time soon. . . . .

OMG, sounds like your urologist belongs to the same satanic organization that mine did! EVERYtime I complained about not being able to let go of the urine, he did one of these torture things on me. I told him the last time (yrs ago) that he would not be doing that any more and was there anything else. He told me "When this fails, then there is surgery." ly, I don't think there was a surgery then, except for the kind that has a tube running out your side. Now I think there is (in modern times, lol). Trouble is, I don't think I could afford to take the time off from my job that it requires to recover from it. I lift people several times a night and into the morning. This probably hasn't helped keep the thing in place either, plus the muscle and tendon-ligament damage from thyroid disease and 4 babies, altogether.

Jan, for what it is worth, about 12 years ago, I was

having frequent bladder infections or they would just

find blood in the urine (I could not see it). The

urologist ordered an IVP... they filled my bladder

with some fluid filled with dye and watched my system

as it voided. (Have you ever had to pee on command as

a group of folks watched... and you have to pee on the

table you are laying on?) Well, they could not find

anything and said that some people just have blood in

their urine. That was not much comfort to me, but

after that, no one has mentioned the blood in urine

again. I was on a lot of other meds at the time, so

maybe one of those meds caused it?

I had a cystoscopy many years ago due to recurrent kidney infections.

When I went back to my internist he asked if I was still having any

problems. My answer: " No. And if I was I would lie about it, because

I am not doing that ever again. "

I'm now curious to know which drugs are used to actually change the size and shape and bend of a woman's urethra, since this is a urinary stricture that I've had all these yrs. The standard drugs used now for just keeping a woman from having the urge to go are dangerous for me, since the problem is that the urine cannot be released but little and often. It's sort of a stenosis or shape change of the inside of the little urethra. Do you know the names of any of these drugs? No, I'm not going to self treat on THIS one, it could be a killer to do that, but I would like to know that if I do go to a urologist, he's going to hold out more hope than the former.

Re: Alien Abduction? OT

My URO says that dilation of the urethra is no longer done for this purpose. They actually have drugs now that help with urine retention.

The procedure that I had was strictly diagnostic. An endoscope was inserted so that the doc could view the lining of the bladder.

One of the Greys did insert some numbing gel. Strangely enough this cystoscopy hurt worse than the one I had done 25 years ago without the gel (because the nurse who was supposed to put it in failed to do so). I think the difference is my age and lack of flexibility of the tissues. Laurie wrote: OWIE!!! You had a cystoscopy with no anesthesia?! I would have slapped someone after they finished! I have had one catheter put in with no anesthesia and it hurt so bad that I fainted, and another time a urologist stuck a fat camera halfway in to look at a vag cyst on my urethra. OUCH.Jan

OW! I'm going to add that one to my list of no thanks, doc. Couldn't

they have knocked you out for that?

I just talked to friend of mine at church who had blood in her urine as a result of not drinking enough water. I took Elmiron and Detrol LA for my IC, or inflammation of bladder and urethra. It helped a lot. Now, I am off, trying for baby, so I take Uristat whenever it bothers me too much. I also avoid caffeine and acidic foods.

My nutritionist has me on something called ClearTrac and some other kind of drops (all natural products) that are supposed to decrease irritation, but haven't noticed any help yet.

No, I do not know any names, nor do I know how well they work. wrote: I'm now curious to know which drugs are used to actually change the size and shape and bend of a woman's urethra, since this is a urinary stricture that I've had all these yrs. The bladder has T3 and estrogen receptors. While I never had a diagnosis of IC, I did have irritable bladder until I got on Armour and bio-identical estrogens. That is very interesting to me because I have noticed my urethera is much happier since I have been on the estrogen and other hormones. I have had trouble with my urethera since young adulthood and was surprised to see an improvement. I don't know precisely the connection but can think of several possibilities. So that explains why a urologist once prescribed an estrogen cream for

me. Hmmmmm ...
