Guest guest Report post Posted February 19, 2001 Hello Everyone, I have been lurking only as of late..I have to confess that I was down w/ the flu and have not worked out in over 1week, this is the first lapse in my routine since July..Although I enjoyed the break I also went thru some guilty feelings and along with that the major fear that I was putting back on all the weight and fat that I had lost..Imagine that..being able to put it all back on in just a week..the mind is a funny thing..anyways the other thing I noticed is my mood..especially since its winter and I'm already bummed and tired of the cold..the lack of working out also depleted my energy even more and I found myself being crabby..so anyways..long story short..I set my goal to start getting back into my workout routine today (monday) so am hoping to head to my workout room and just do a basic 30min so so I know I am back on the right path again..I am also looking forward to getting back into my better eating habits..although I didn't totally fall off the " eat right " wagon..I definitely had moments..like last night where I almost polished off a bag of toffee popcorn all by myself..ok, so there it is my " confession " ..I hope I can get back into it now..especially w/ summer coming and especially to help me feel better..so here goes.. Take care everyone..also, anyone else been in this position..what did you do to remotivate yourself? Kathy
Guest guest Report post Posted February 19, 2001 Hey Temera, I wish you good luck with this, but you know, I think that you will get your condition well very soon. Somebody told me once that muscles have a memory and that they remember were you stopped training, so that when you start again a couple of weeks later, it isn't so difficult anymore. Guest guest Report post Posted February 19, 2001 Tamera, A few things - I have no clue what TOPS is but the scale is NOT an acurate judge if you are doing TaeBo. I lost 12 pounds right away but have since GAINED back 8 of that. I KNOW I am not fatter - it's muscle. Have you measured yourself? That's what I go by. I use centimeters also so the more minute changes are seen :-) As far as the stiffness - that will go away. I did TaeBo for a week, pulled a muscle or something and couldn't walk so I waited 10 days. When I started again I was stiff an had lost what I gained. After just a few days it was back! Don't fret! Guest guest Report post Posted February 19, 2001 Anyway, I am giving myself a new challenge and that is instead of a > 21 day challenge, I am doing a 10 day challenge. So, Feb. 26th will be the last day of that one > Temera Temera, I am sorry you are having such a tough time right now! I think a 10 day challenge is a great idea. I have always had mixed feeling about the 21 day challenge, even though I have done a few myself. On one hand, I understand wanting to make exercise a habit. On the other hand, I hate that some people tend to feel like " failures " if they " only " make it to day 15, for example. I think setting smaller goals is a great idea and will help you stay motivated!
Guest guest Report post Posted February 19, 2001 > > Take care everyone..also, anyone else been in this position..what did you do > to remotivate yourself? Kathy, I have been in that position four hundered million times, lol! I get my motivation back slowly. Start with today. Do your workout. Don't worry about tomorrow until tomorrow. That always helps me. I focus on eating right and working out just for today. Then tomorrow, focus on that day. Pretty soon you will be on a roll again who is back on track after a week of being VERY off thanks to a bunch of valentine's goodies!

Anyway, I am giving myself a new challenge and that is instead of a > 21 day challenge, I am doing a 10 day challenge. So, Feb. 26th will be the > last day of that one. Temera, I'm sorry you had a rough week last week! Try not to get too down about it, though! Things happen in our life that make it impossible to workout sometimes. The important thing is that you got right back into it! A week of not working out isn't going to hurt you in the long run I know it SEEMS much harder this time around after taking a week off, but it will get easier again much more quickly! Hang in there! I'm sorry you are so discouraged with TOPS. If it is making you feel more miserable than I would suggest you quit. But, if it's helping you keep your eating in control, then I would stick with it! I know it's frustrating when the scale doesn't cooperate with us, but if you stick with it and keep doing what you are doing...you WILL see changes! They just take longer to " see " with some people. You can do it

I wouldn't look at this as a lapse necessarily! You were sick and you had to let your body heal! There's a difference I know it's hard not to get stressed out about not being able to workout, but you've just got to listen to your body and not your mind sometimes! Good luck getting back into your routine Take it easy and ease back into it! You'll do fine It's nice to see you around here again....don't be a stranger

Guest guest Report post Posted November 1, 2001 Dear Annie, take a look at this website: http://www.stressdynamics.com they have a page on pain management which might be of use to you. Additionally, they sell products which might help decrease you perceptions of pain and augment your pain medicine's effectiveness. Good luck! --- ann harcleroad wrote: > Hello, > My name is annie. Guest guest Report post Posted November 1, 2001 The bacteria is called Helicobacter Pylori. It found in some but not all ulcers. Guest guest Report post Posted November 1, 2001 Dear Annie, I don't know if I posted here about my recent break through but your letter reminded me. I am a teacher but stopped teaching when my X left me with 4 little ones five years ago then three years ago I was in a car crash and my foot was crushed and have chronic pain since then, the accident that is. I have wanted to get back to teaching but being on pain meds made me nervous but this list and Ray the list manager have helped me overcome some of that. Three weeks ago I subbed. It was my first time in the classroom in 4 years. It went great. And it was a good day pain wise. A week later I was called again but was having a not so good day but still I managed the class while using my meds. I don't advertise my medical condition and get more consideration as a single parent than a disabled one. Sometimes they ask me how do I do it and I have to smile inside since they only know half the story. Welcome aboard. Al > Hello, > My name is annie. Guest guest Report post Posted November 1, 2001 dianne , Thank you for answerering my e-mail. The doctors have traced my ulcers back to taking alot of headache medications, aspirin to my ulcers. I,m not really depressed. I just get tired of dealing with it . When I lost the weight from the stomach surgery, I became anemic. My iron would have to be replaced with inferon infusions. I get very tired but I have learned to pace myself and take naps. A lady I know started me on km. This is a herbal potassium supplememt. That was 4 years ago. It helps alot. I don,t get as sick and I haven,t had to have an infusion for 2 years. I have been on zoloft but it would make me more tired. There has been an advertisement for a chronic pain study especially back pain. I was considering that. Please let me know what you think. I am also looking for something that will help me gain weight. I can,t drink anything with milk. Thank you again. Guest guest Report post Posted November 1, 2001 ABOUT 5 YEARS AGO, they discovered that ulcers were caused by bacteria(forget the name, but you can have a blood test to see if you have it, and then take a long course of antibiotics,) it has nothing to do with stress, etc. like they thought. second thought, i would recommend that you go to a pain clinic. you are taking short acting medications, and will soon xdevelop a tolerance. they won't work after awhile, or you have to take more. pain clinics usually order long acting meds, like oxycontin, morphycontin, duragesic patch etc. that last 8-12 hours, and keep a steady level in your blood stream, so there are little or no peaks and valleys in your pain level. with the ulcer, you could take them by patch, pump, or rectally. you sound depressed(we are all after a decade or so of proloonged suffering). ssri anti-depressants helped me a lot. being anurse, i didn't want to take anything, even if i do have a " reactive depression " . prozac and paxil were the best for me. prozac gives me energy and less brain fog, and weight loss. paxil is somewhat sedating(depends on dose), but there are other new drugs that help. sorry if i sound like a drug pusher, but medication has given me back a quality of life(i spent 6 years in bed). presently going to college 2-3 hours/day, 4 days a work. i no longer stay in pajamas, i wear makeup, died my hair pink purple and wine(black underneath-was in the toronto star paper last saturday! my way of not wanting to turn 50. kids at school think i;m early 30's. thirdly, and perhaps most importantly, apart from the value of living a spiritually guided life, a good support system, of friends, ng, drs. therapist, physio, etc. it a definite must. Guest guest Report post Posted November 1, 2001 Good for you Al! The less people know, the better. Just because you've become ill doesn't mean you've forgotten everything you learned as a teacher. Even well people need to rest now and again. But if you tell them you need to rest or something because of an illness, you get labled as not being able to do the job any longer--even though you can. Keep fudging as long as you can and enjoy those kids(yours and the class). Guest guest Report post Posted December 19, 2001 I wondered where you'd disappeared to !! Good luck on getting your computer fixed - we just went through this a couple of months ago. My husband's computer finally bit the dust (and it was mostly because of the same type of problems that you have, but he exacerbated his by taking the cover off the tower to do something with it and then leaving it off in a house full of dusty parrots and furry dogs!). We had to save up for several months (and he had to go computerless for that time) to get together the almost $500 it took to replace everything that was messed up in it. It ended up needing a new motherboard, new floppy drive, his CD-ROM was messed up, modem, he wanted a new bigger hard drive - we basically ended up rebuilding the whole computer. It's a pain to be without one, but I think he thinks that it's worth it now because he has a much better computer now (and everything works!) than he did before. I hope it doesn't take you as long as it took us to get his fixed, but we'll be here when you do get back! Good luck with your new doctor's appointment - I know how much this one means to you! - At 05:33 AM 12/19/01 -0000, you wrote: >Just checking in, we are currently sans computer!
