Guest guest
Christi Thanks for posting this. I enjoyed readin it and your other posts. Okay I need to refocus on losing wieght ...about 40lbs. Low carbing hasn't worked totally for me but it sure is a step in the right direction. And I've been slowly sliding back into toooo many carbs. If you get a chance could you post what an ideal daily food log is for you when you're on the go. That's when I really get messed up. Thanks Lynn > Since low carb has come up.... my blog today was about Atkins and my last 19 > months low carbing, in case anyone is interested: > > The First Hundred Pounds Are Easy > http://dogged.typepad.com/doggedblog/2004/12/the_first_hundr.html > > Christie
Guest guest
>> If you get a chance could you post what an ideal daily food log is for you when you're on the go. That's when I really get messed up. << This is tricky, because I work out of a home office and live in the country, in a town without any restaurants, and in an entire region that has absolutely no fast food outlets or chain restaurants whatsoever. So in all honesty, this isn't a challenge I have to deal with frequently. When I do have to be on the go for several hours, I bring food with me unless I know for a fact I'll be somewhere I've been able to eat before. Things I bring with me are chunks of good raw cheese, salami slices (I get a nice nitrate-free salami at Whole Foods, very convenient), roast chicken which I can also buy at the Whole Foods deli or make myself at home, peeled whole hard boiled eggs, cherry tomatos, olives, celery sticks with cream cheese, and other " picnic " type items like that. I put them in baggies or tupperware-style containers and then in an insulated soft cooler with ice packs. I do have a cooler that runs on my car battery as well, but I only use that in the hottest weeks of summer - the rest of the year it's overkill. It's basically a question of planning, which I find to be key to my success. I don't have the luxury, whether I'm at home or out, of getting to meal time and asking, gee, what shall I eat? I always, always have several options, to cook or ready to eat, in my fridge at all times. I plan my shopping carefully so I never run out of food. Sure, sometimes I am not in the mood for what I had planned (which is why I try to have options), but given my history I've just accepted that sometimes I will eat things I'm not in the mood for, in the service of a good cause. I eat according to the saying, " Breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, dinner like a pauper, " because that is what works best for me. My breakfast is huge and extremely high in fat and calories (generally eggs and some kind of meat, some cheese, sometimes sour cream if I've made an omelette, plus hot tea with raw cream). Although the quality of the food is very low if you have to eat something like this in a restaurant, and it's nothing I'd want to do regularly, when I've been traveling I have eaten breakfast even at diners, where it's always easy to get bacon and eggs or an omelette, and coffee with cream. Very filling and always available. Lunch is typically some variation on meat and salad. I am (if I do say so myself) a really good cook, and this is NOT broiled skinless chicken breast and boiled broccoli... trust me on this. <G> I use sauces, cheese, herbs and spices, and of course LOTS of butter and garlic. It's very appealing and tasty. I love food and want it to be enjoyable to eat. Late afternoon I have hot tea with raw cream plus a snack.... nuts, cheese, meat, celery with cream cheese, olives, whatever I find appealing from what's in my fridge. Dinner is just a smaller amount of the same types of things I have for lunch. It is not a smaller amount because I impose this on myself, I eat less food as the day goes on out of my own personal inclination. If I don't start my day with an ENORMOUS, high-calorie, fatty breakfast, I do eat more later in the day. I hope something here was of some help to you!
