Guest guest
I can't remember where I saw it, but there was this web site where it would quiz you on the calcium-containing foods you ate and tell you at the end where you stood for that day. It may have been the Viactiv site. Calcium and magnesium need to be in balance. Calcium helps muscles contract and magnesium helps them relax. If you get too much calcium and not enough magnesium, you can end up with muscle cramping, stiff neck, hiccups, that sort of thing. Taking magnesium can reverse it. Personally, eating foods high in magnesium doesn't help me that much if I've had too much calcium. You can get magnesium supplements, but I've been keeping Soft Chews around. They have 500 mg of magnesium in each chew. Yeah, they have the other stuff that isn't so good, so some people might want to avoid them. They are sold as a laxative, so you might want to be aware of that potential effect, too. ;-) IMHO, if you're getting sufficient calcium from sources like raw dairy and bone broths, you're not likely to overdose on calcium. Those sources will have other minerals as well. > > I'm currently taking Nature's Plus ultra prenatal vitamins which > have 600 mg of calcium per daily dose. Guest guest
Magda, I have now had 2 very healthy pregnancies and children eating whole foods (especially anything I was craving, as long as it was nutritious), without any prenatals. My first child, I did prenatals, and they made me horrible sick...imagine severe " morning sickness " 24 hours a day! LOL I would skip the supplements, and eat nutritious food!
