I was worried enough to consult about possible thyroid imbalances and was told that some women have exceedingly thin hairlines postpartum. What I've been doing to improve things this time around have been eating sea vegetables and taking lots of fish oil. My hair isn't perfect, but it is getting better. I go through certain times of the year where my hair brush is full and my show drain is groaning. And as with other mammals it can be more or less dramatic depending on stress levels, diet, exercise etc. Your recent diet changes are all in the right direction. Yep, this is very common. 3+ years pospartum of my last one, though, I have plenty of hair and it's down past the small of my back. I know that I have also had incredible hair growth during pregnancy, and during nursing, if I am eating properly. The flipside is that after birth, I lose enough hair every shower to clog the screen too! Make sure that you are getting enough fats (preferably raw). After increasing my fats, and raw produce and nuts, I have found that my hair is growing increasingly thicker, stronger, shinier. (I only use an all natural shampoo.) Since I am still nursing the 22 month old (4.5 years of continuous lactation), I also find that if I let my diet slip from NT Plus lots of raw fruits, veggies, nuts/seeds, and fats, I start having more hair problems. Lack of sleep and stress also make the problems worse. Here's one for you... with the first two births, I got gray hairs. With the improvements in my diet over the last couple of years, the gray hairs are getting color again!
