Guest guest
You make tallow from suet, which is the fat from around the organs. What state are you in? May I ask why you need tallow, Cyndy? Do you need it to pemmican, bird food, or just candles, or something else? Guest guest
@@@ Cyndy: > Tallow seems to be difficult to find. Can anyone provide a tallow source? @@@ I don't know where you live, but here in rural PA I drive by a heck of a lot of tallow everyday, just not isolated and ready-to-eat tallow. Surely anywhere in the US has lots of cows nearby. Just find a good cow that happens to be dead anyway and extract the tallow. Butcher shops are good places to look. Tallow is no more difficult to find than kefir; if you can find some cows you've got both. Guest guest
I just made some tallow for the first time today and it was waaayyy easier than i could have imagined. Filled the house with an unpleasant odor however and i'm starting to feel unsure about my anticipated pemmican experiments. Perhaps i'll just make soap and candles. What else can you do with tallow? I acquired 30 pounds of free grass-fed suet and would love to put it to use. Elaine
