Guest guest Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 Ah, Marta, Marta, Marta, if you are in ENGLAND, you didn't eat sausages-you ate BANGERS. :-) One of my favourite dishes is " bangers and mash. " LOVE it! I also love bubble and squeak (so named for the sound it makes cooking). Jim Who doesn't believe Marta is in England. :-) _____ From: DS_Friends_Keshishian [mailto:DS_Friends_Keshishian ] On Behalf Of mjs93311 Sent: Thursday, May 11, 2006 5:54 PM To: DS_Friends_Keshishian Subject: OT: my England diary, hickup! Guest guest Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 Jim, That's why I was confused at first, sausages are from Germany, Bangers are from England. I almost forgot that distinction. Either that or poor Marta was having a typical American meal, mixed cuisines. LOL Jerry >Ah, Marta, Marta, Marta, if you are in ENGLAND, you didn't eat sausages-you >ate BANGERS. :-) One of my favourite dishes is " bangers and mash. Guest guest Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 Well, they do manage to wrap sausage around almost anything here! lol I had a Scotch Egg. A boiled egg wrapped in sausage, breaded adn deep fried. Yum! I haven't really eaten sausage on a daily basis, but also have not had any mash(ed potatoes). No one has mentioned bangers to me, for that matter. They may be translating everything into American for me. One thing is the kettle, I will be buying a new one when I get home. I am in love with their cordless insulated kettle. It is amazingly fast, but probably due to the 220 voltage, huh? I am teasing Jim with my little diary! I left out walking the dog on the bank in my Wellies. Marta > > Jim, > > That's why I was confused at first, sausages are from Germany, Bangers are > from England. Quote
Guest guest Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 Boy, is THAT the truth, Jerry! I suppose only those who have travelled extensively would get all these little jokes! LOL But I can see our Marta tossing back a pint or two in a nice Pub in Merry Old. I wonder if Marta knows what " Pub " is an abbreviation for. _____ From: DS_Friends_Keshishian [mailto:DS_Friends_Keshishian ] On Behalf Of and Jerry Lamb Sent: Thursday, May 11, 2006 9:23 PM To: DS_Friends_Keshishian ; mjs93311 Subject: Re: OT: my England diary, hiccup! Marta. The whiskey was the give-away that you were definitely NOT in Germany. There it would have been " Ate sausages; drank BEER!! " ;-)) Nice to know you enjoyed yourself. Jerry Quote
Guest guest Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 I don't think it's the voltage, Marta. I have a friend with one of those new fangled cordless kettles and that baby will heat the water in nothing flat! It takes less time to boil the water than it does to steep the tea! _____ From: DS_Friends_Keshishian [mailto:DS_Friends_Keshishian ] On Behalf Of mjs93311 Sent: Friday, May 12, 2006 12:57 AM To: DS_Friends_Keshishian Subject: Re: OT: my England diary, hiccup! Yes, i finally found the " key on this brit keyboard. Yes, I double checked with an expert before I posted my reply to verify i had the correct answer. I finally got DS stools, however. Avoid Fish & Chips, be warned! Marta off to do a bit of train-spotting at another pub in nearby Howden > I suppose only those who have travelled extensively would get all these > little jokes! Guest guest Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 What I meant was, Hobnobs are an oatmeal tea biscuit usually covered in chocolate. It's interesting that the hobnobs and pancakes have almost identical ingredients but each are so different from the other.
