For me nausea is blood sugar levels related. If I eat something

sugary (or high GI-carbohydrates like white bread, or fruit) I'll

feel weak, dizzy and nauseous, especially on an empty stomach. this

is because my body produces too much insulin to soak up the sugar -

sending me into a blood-sugar dive (hypoglycemic). It's not

dangerous (or at least mine isn't) but it does make me feel

awful. And when it first started, I felt nauseous all the time

because I didn't realise I was triggering it continuously. Id have

some plain crackers to try to settle the nausea, and it would just

set it off again!

Over the years I've learnt by trial and error what works and what

doesn't - if I want sweets or chocolate, I have them after I've eaten

something my system absorbs more slowly, like cheese, or a solid

meal. Nerida, before I got it under control I used to have what

you're describing - nauseous most of the time, but never when I'm

actually eating!

Hi, you can take lactase, if the part of the milk you are reacting to is the

lactose. Even after treatment I find that I can only have a wee skim in my

tea, and I eat goat cheese instead. Hard to get goat yogurt but it can be

found - might want to try that. Other sources of good bacteria are fermented

foods like miso, sauerkraut, good quality tamari soy sauce.I just love miso

as soup and flavouring so I get it that way. Cheers, Aylwin

I try not to have much dairy as it seems to affect me. But I do love

yogurt, so I'll have to try that.

I've not seen goat yogurt at my health food store. I'll have to ask if

they can stock it. How does it taste? I haven't found any goat cheese

either but I had thought that Feta cheese was goat cheese only to find

out that it has milk in it. I use rice milk without a problem but

haven't seen rice yogurt. I don't use Miso because it has soy and my

doc told me to avoid soy. I do eat sauerkraut sometimes and do use

tamari. I haven't tried the lactase as I don't know what part of the

milk I react too.

I only had the nausea symptom --thank GOD!-- at a certain stage of this

illness. At that time I'd not been diagnosed, and also had

headaches, the fibromyalgia pain in my legs and sometimes hands; also

head aches. THEN there was the fatigue factor.... I finally found that

I was able to stave it off by eating cereal with soymilk (8 Continents

if you can get it; full of vitamins); usually I'd do Bran cereal.

Nothing about my physical system was 'regular' at all back then and I

was going doctor to doctor with no answers. For myself I think the

reason it stopped was the cause had to do perhaps with consipation, and

somewhat with a habit of not eating in the morning. When I feel that

way now I resort to that, saltine or similar crackers, sometimes even a

light kind of fruit.

Hi Sandrea, you have to find goat Feta, I use it all the time (but live on

health food island here in Canada <grin>). I found a really good goat

cheddar from a company named Woolrich, I have no idea how widely it is

available. And we have local artisan goat cream cheeses, cost the earth but

lovely for a treat. Goat is much more like human and not so hard to digest.

BTW Tamari is soy. Perhaps you could just try the lactase as it does no

harm, or try the lactose-free milk as an experiment. Aylwin xo

Another good natural remedy is Fresh ginger root. You can boil it in tea.

Also coke syrup which is over the counter and also emetrol again Over the

counter. I always have ginger ale soda in the house. Pretzels also help as well

as

saltine crackers.

Thanks. I will have to look. Yeah, I forgot about the Tamari being

soy. Woops. I was looking for the wheat free factor. I don't use it

very often.

That happened to me on Wednesday. I can't eat a lot in the morning, just a

protein bar or something to take my meds, and usually I'm fine, but I was coming

back from a meeting and I started getting really nauseous so I ate a snack and

it went away almost immediately, it really was wierd

You may need to check and see if you have a Mediteranean food store in your

area, they would have foods made from goat milk.

I've never seen rice yogurt, but they make really yummy rice ice cream!!!!

recoomend a supplier in your area?? Where do you live? If you can't find one by

Yes, I've been getting more nausea lately. Mostly it is related to

migraines or starting a new medicine (such as the Byetta injections for

my diabetes). Sometimes it seems to come from nowhere and just hang around.

The first thing I do is figure out how long it's been since I had a real

meal (i.e., one containing a fair amount of protein and some fat, not

just carbs). If it's been 4 hours or more, eating something is the

first order of business. Sometimes that's enough to quell the nausea

for a few hours.

Chewing on crystallized ginger always helps me, and it's not as " hot "

and more convenient than using a fresh ginger root. Most ginger ales

don't have enough real ginger in them nowadays, except for certain

brands at the health food store. There's a wonderful product called

Ginger Wonder Syrup at the HFS, which is basically fresh ginger juice in

honey. I put a big spoonful of it in a cup of black tea, and it really

helps when sipped slowly.

Eating crackers or plain toast sometimes helps, but I can't do too much

of that due to diabetes.

Chewing sugarless gum seems to help for mild nausea (not the vomiting

kind), especially when doing something to distract myself such as

watching TV.

Sometimes I get nauseous when overtired, overheated, and dehydrated.

The obvious solution is to rest someplace cool and drink water ;@)

Sometimes it feels like my electrolytes may be off if I've been

dehydrated for hours, in which case sipping V8 really helps. (I like it

either chilled with a squeeze of fresh lemon, or microwaved with a grind

of pepper.) Or eating dill pickles or salty popcorn. (But the V8 is

healthiest and gives you magnesium and potassium in addition to the sodium.)

There are a couple accupressure points that you can do on yourself that

help nausea. One is on the inside of the wrist, about 4 finger-widths

up from the main wrist crease, between two cords (CS6). This is the one

that " Sea Bands " stimulate (Sea Bands are available at drug stores and

health food stores; they're basically elastic wrist bands with a bead

that you line up on CS6). There's another point just below the center

of the nose, about 2/3 of the way up from the upper lip; use the point

of your index finger to press on this and hold.

Hope this helps!

Deborah,

Please ask your doc for something to control the nausea so that you can keep food down but just remember, if you can only get fluid down for one day, it wont be the most horrible thing,, really,, ask your doc for a suppository if you can't keep food down.. but keep eating popsicycles or something really cold,, Ginger Ale is good for nausea too!

I hope it gets better!

I started treatment last night and thought I was doing really well - no fever, no chills. But today I have a headache that keeps getting worse and I am nauseous. Now I'm throwing up. I left a message for my doctor's nurse. But can anyone tell me if they have experience with this and what can be done to help? I am drinking lots of water, but can't keep food down.Deborah

I've heard that antidepressants can make you nauseated so it might be helpful to eat something at the time you take it and then again in the morning when you get up. Protein helps with nausea too. Just a thought,, not everything works for everyone but its worth a try!

hope that helps,
