Used now and then, for the short term can still provide a benefit. One article mentioned 1966. I believe I put corn surup on pan cakes back in the 1950's. So the product has been around a long time. On Oprah several days ago, there was a show about nutrition. So many new hyrdogenated this and asces that have gotten into our diets. I try to cook with fresh vegetables, many of which I grow myself. We eat fresh whenever possible. We have fresh sweet potato tops almost every day. The wines are the same as the sweet potato vines that grow sweet potatos. Goat love them... cattle too! Ocasional use of karo, by a child may (or may not be fine), but certainly long term use of any additive should be avoided. One can also find a long list of sites that show how this and that is great. I avoid sweets of all kinds for the most part. Candy to me is licorice, and not sweet candy, and I eat very little of that, (licorice). Locals can not see how I eat any. But even under the best of diets, children will get pasted up. I do not know what else to say except I hope that boy gets well soon. Guest guest
Hi, I tired the corn syrup today and he drank it ok but not all of the dosage. I gave him 1 tabelspoon with 4 ounces of water. He did poop and didnt scream bloody murder but he only went a little bit and didnt go any more today...so do i keep giving it to him? How much per day should he get? I dont want to give it to him when hes really hungry cause he needs nutrients instead of just syrup. Guest guest
Candace: Sounds to me as if your young man is on the mend. What do you think of karo surup now? I would not use it long term. But a day or two... I doubt he will have any long term problems. Mix an tablespoon or so with each bottle he gets and when he seem to have had enough stooks, back off. If you have any doubts, then see or call your family MD. Best wishes... JJ Philippines > > Subject: Re: ORGANIC CORN SYRUp > > > > > > I thought corn syrup was bad whether it's organic or not. Guest guest
Candace: I am so happy to hear that you son is doing much better. Please keep me informed as to his progress. I have had two of my three children that have had very bad digestive problems. Rest assured that you and your family, including your young man, are in my prayers. You can feel free to post me on either the site or privately. I have caught a lot of static with my suggestion, including several very ugly emails. I am please that you reported success. My old methods work. I would never give information that would harm.... I am so sorry to have gotten a little ticked at some of the other guests on this site, but I have learned to do what is right, even if what is right is not politically correct. One or two more good swiggs of karo and your little man will be good to go. If you have ANY doubts at all, please do not hessitate to call your sons physician. I know that you are relieved, as am I. Please let us know how this future full back does on his journey toward maturity. If you are in Texas, I will vote for him when he runs for public office... I promice. Guest guest
JJ, Thank you for your advice and support. I am not 100% about karo but it did help aleviate some pain for him which is soo important. It didnt make him poop more though but im trying it again right now My concern is that we are only covering up the symptoms is this going to be a cure? Because i do not want to give this to him for very long. Thanks again and im sorry my post caused sooo much controversy. candacesamanka_farm wrote: Candace:I am so happy to hear that you son is doing much better. Please keep me informed as to his progress. Guest guest
Candace: The fact that your son is improving and you are also feeling better about the situation is great news for me. I can take the heat and ugliness knowing that you and your son are doing better. Your concerns of long term effects and covering up other symptons and manifestations of illness are a valid concern. I am sure that the ''controversy'' will soon be forgotten. I have saved the ugly emails that came me, both publicly and privately, so that I can learn to be more ''tactful'' in the future. Hopefully all you other parenting decions will be easier in the future. Perhaps of the children came with instruction manuals, things would be even more difficult. Be patient and do not be afraid to ever ask questions. I may not jump in quite so fast with information in the future, but I feel good about my actions this time. By the way, where do you live. We have a small farm in the Philippine Islands. Our farm is about a thousand feet from the the Provincial Capitol. Rural, but with town water supply and lots of good neighbors. I wish your son could see our little chickens and ducks. I am sure he would have a ball here. We had goats, but we did not do well with them here. I guess I will have to get an imported one and start my dairy project with adult goats, not babies, like I did in California. We love making cheese and have asked for information on making cheese as we have forgot so much from our experiences 20 years ago. As a result of your problem, I have found out several interesting links for and from RawDairy, including Family Farms. Regards, keep us informed and we will keep you and your son in our prayers. I hope he is a half back in a few years. I am sure he will do fine.... maybe he will even a statesman.... oh if I could only see the future. An old person says good luck and rests our selves in knowing we tried to assist and not put others down in doing so. Guest guest
Candace, did you try the lactose? It may not be as easy to mix, thought, as it's probably a powder, but it is the form of sugar that's found in breastmilk. Are his stools really hard? What is his skin like? I forget the signs of dehydration in a baby. Is he having plenty (like 6-8) wet diapers a day? Hey, here are a few websites to peruse that look good. I've always likes Dr. Sears. Here's his page on constipation: http://www.askdrsears.com/html/8/T081100.asp But he doesn't talk about corn syrup or adding any sugars at all. Here'a a site that does talk about why corn syrup works: http://www.drhull.com/EncyMaster/S/stool_infant.html A little ways down the page it talks about the corn syrup. It says to always add it to the regular bottles, not in between regular feeding. "Offering corn syrup in water between milk bottles, although often recommended, makes no sense whatsoever. This is because the idea is to overwhelm the absorptive capacity for sugar of the small intestine by adding more total sugar than can be absorbed. The excess passes through the small intestine into the large bowel, where it causes a natural and harmless looseness to the stool." It would seem, then, that the lactose should also work, although it is probably is quite a bit more expensive. By the same token, another site, http://www.rogerknapp.com/medical/constipation.htm, said to add any juice to the formula, not to use it alone. Then there's a site I found, http://www.optimalhealthnetwork.com/pilot.asp?pg=infant-constipation, that talks about baby enemas. What I was really looking for was info about Magnesium, as I've heard something about that linked with constipation. This site did make this statement: The best tool I have found to use is magnesium. The formula I recommend is largely magnesium citrate. Magnesium nutritionally stimulates the peristaltic muscles to evacuate the lower bowel. It also nourishes and strengthens the intestinal muscles to work better on their own. It also brings water into the bowel. With the Reacted Magnesium that I recommend, I have parents start with 1/16 of a tablespoon in some water and work their way up until a daily bowel movement consistently occurs. I wonder if baths in some epsom salts would work. The first site, from Dr. Sears, mentioned they use a kinda deep (chest high) warm bath to help relax the baby so they don't hold it in. An epsom salt bath would give both extra water and magnesium through the skin. Just an idea. http://www.healthy.net/scr/Article.asp?Id=246 Wow, here's a site that looks interesting. It talks about probiotics, conventional treatments, homeopathy, accupressure points, herbal treatments, etc. You might find something helpful there. I found it when I searched for infant constipation +epsom salt baths, so I guess that must be in there somewhere. Hope something in there helps. Guest guest
yes corn syrup worked wonders. I used organic light corn syrup from wholesome that i got at wholefoods. I have only given it to him 3 times total and it was only about 1/2 tabelspoon. So thank you. I have not taken him to the doctor yet he has an appointment with a GI specialist on the 7th so we will see. thanks candacesamanka farm wrote: Did the corn surup work?Did any of the alternatives that you tried work without major side effects?I would agreee with Liz in not using the Corn Surup long term. Guest guest
Sally, Wow you really did some research for me i really appreciate your help. I have actually cured his constipation with Digestive enzymes. I took him to our naturopath and had live blood cell analysis done on him and he has terrible free radicals, irritable bowel sindrome and parasites!!! I couldnt believe it. The whole time i was trying other things to give him and different foods that wasnt the problem. The doctor said you can give him anything and his body still will reject it, you have to fix him not his food! Can you believe it! I was shocked i had tried so many things with no luck. He said you were on the right track but you just hadent found the missing link yet. So we put him on digestive enzymes and grape seed extract and within 12 hours he had soft normal bowel movements. And his eczema is clearing up and his refulx is almost completely gone. Its a miracle! every mother with these problems needs to do what i did. Thank you for all of your research hopefully this will be the trick that will fix him for good. greatfully candace wilsonSally Holdener wrote: Candace, did you try the lactose? Guest guest
Candace, IBS in a baby? Everything I've read talks about 18, as in years, being young for IBS development, but wow, given that intestinal development continues quite a long time after birth, I'd think the difficulties could be contributed more specifically to physical development and abnormalities, and not specifically IBS. Then again, maybe in this day and age, any little intestinal upset is IBS. There's even research showing that babies who had lower birth weights or were premature (even by a couple of weeks) develop intestinal disorders later in life due to poor development when young. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2006/09/060927201626.htm I'd personally view anyone with suspicion if they dx'd a baby with IBS. And terrible free radicals? I'm not even sure where to go with that one....and I am NOT meaning to try to sound harsh with you. Whipping this off, not a lot of time, and I felt a bit stunned with the naturopath's ideas..... Glad you got the little guy up and " going " . Thank you for all of your research hopefully this will be the trick that will fix him for good. > greatfully > candace wilson
