sCandace, Just a heads up. When infants strain really hard and frequently with bowel movements they can be at increased risk for intasusepsion. I don't know if I spelled that right or not. They get what is called currant jelly stools, and it looks exactly like red currant jelly. This condition can be very serious even life threatening. It is were the intestines flip on themselves. You might talk to your doctor about adding some magnesium. Too much

calcium will constipate a person, as Dr. Carl Reich found when he put his

terminal cancer patients on calcium supplements. They started complaining

of constipation so he added magnesium -- and every single one of them was

cured of their cancer and lived many years longer. Epsom salts or milk of

magnesia, in a weight adjusted dose might help.

Put swome Karo surup into the bottles. Keep adding until you get thestools the consistancy you want... we recommended this for manypediatric clinics that I ran over the years in the military.Trust me it works and it is cheap. Talk it over with your doctor before you do anything.

But, my experience has been that egg (especially raw) isn't something

that easy for baby to digest. I'd stick to breat milk as much as is

possible and supplement with the goat milk. Making kefir or yogurt

with some of the goat milk can sure help, too.

My youngest son, who's now 2, became constipated and had very different

stools compared to what all my other children had, when he was about 4

months old. It was weird, he suddenly stopped having bowel movements for 2

or 3 days, and then started having one with a peanut butter consistency, and

without the normal curds that most breastfed babies have. He was totally

breastfed at this point. I was baffled. He would have obvious stomach

discomfort in the morning as well. Finally after about 3-4 weeks of this

and talking to several other moms, I tried giving him some probiotics and

enzymes. I don't know why I didn't think about it sooner. Maybe because

he'd never had any antibiotics or vaccines or anything other than

breastmilk. Anyway, I got some KidZymes enzymes and Lifestart Bifidus

Infantis probiotics, and mixed one capsule of the Kidzymes with maybe 1/4

tsp. of the Lifestart with some of my breastmilk and spooned it into him,

building up to 3 times a day. I started seeing a difference in his stools

by day three. A couple times in that first year, if I quit giving him the

enzymes and probiotics, by the second week he'd start getting the same type

of stools, and it always went back to the mustardy curd type I'm used to

within a couple days of starting the enzymes and probiotics again. I never

did figure out what was doing it to him. He also didn't do well on egg

yolks when I tried introducing them to him at 6 months, and I had to wait

until about a year before he'd keep them down.

Just my experience. If you were doing the wap formula, you probably already

have some of the Lifestart probiotics you could try.

I had the same problem with our adopted son. I added liquid magnesium and

blackstrap molasses. I would also add chlorophyll once or twice a day along

with the cod liver oil. I would also prick a vit. E capsule every couple of

days and squirt it into his month.

I would take away anything but breastmilk for the day and see if he manages to go by evening. Although I love NT, I do not support their idea of formula for a baby. My esperince from my running Pediatric Clinics is that Breast fed babies seem to have a looser stool than those that are bottle fed. We used to get a lot of mothers that felt their babies had too firm a stool. Most were bottle fed or a mix of bottle and breast that had the firm stools. We recommend about 4 tablespooms of light Karo for each 4 ozs of forumula. The mothers could then adjust the amt up or down as they desired. Most that followed my advice, hundreds of them over 20 years of military, were not disappointed. I treated babies of about every culture there was. All mothers are worried about thebabies BM's. With the military we often did not have an extended family. I was that extended family and knew the role well. Even when I went to the commissary or the exchange or px I was child care questions. We hadlimited staff and lots of babies. Young people, at least in those days, had babies

because the insurance paid for the babies. The care was free and good to excellent. Many children in those days came off of military delivery tables.Oh, those were the days. Try a little Karo surup and see what baby does.It will not hurt them and the cure is cheap... and almost as natural as you canget. Cheap, natural and works. Thank you for your advice. I am a little ignorant to karo syrup. What exactly is it and would you think it is WAP friendly? It sounds like a lot of syrup per formula but its worth a shot. I don't doubt JJ's experience, but I didn't like using the Karo (corn syrup) when I was faced with this problem. That is why I told you about the blackstrap molasses...I felt much better about using it.

I heard that preached all over the US and Europe when I was in the service.I got out about 4 yrs ago. Used it on my own baby when she was breastfed.Only had one episode of constipation and the karo cleared it right up. Never would I let my baby suffer with that, she was so miserable.

My son

was severely allergic to all dairy and had bloody diarrhea but he was 2 yrs old

before he even got a taste of dairy. He was exclusively breastfed. I would pump

your milk out in a bottle that is the perfect food for your baby the one nature

intended him to have. I agree babies should not be eating eggs especially raw

in a bottle. He now is able to drink it with no problem. So I just waited until

he was older and gave it to him and he was fine. My opinion I would not be

giving him clo either only breast milk. My 3 out of 4 children had only breast milk

for the first year and nothing else and they are very healthy kids. Your baby

only needs your milk for the first year.

Talk it over with your

Speaking as one who's sugar addiction, and the eventual beginnings of

type 2 diabetes, began almost at birth from the use of the sugar

based baby formulas of the 50's, I would not use corn syrup or any

other sugar to feed a baby, period.

I had no control over what my parents fed to me as a child, but I have

control over what I feed to myself and to my family now. Sugar is

right out!

I am powerless in the face of sugar and face each day one day at a

time because of my addiction. In many ways, it is worse than alcohol.

Sugar- unnatural refined sugars and syrups- are part of the evil

agricultural empire we are fighting.

If you want sweet, use stevia.

Most mothers want to introduce solid foods as soon as possible....Why I never did figure out....Many want to start with rice cereal at as early as 6 weeks.... Breast milk is all that his needed for the first 6 months.... Then usually cereal, often rice....then a green vegetable, such as beans. Feed each vegetable for one week. Then introduce a new vegetable each week. If the childseems to be allergic or not tolerate the introduced vegetable stop it, continue out the week in what the child can tolerate and try a different vegetable the following week. Babies will often be awakeduring the night. Babies fed rice cereal may sleep during the nightbut at what expence....After six months slowly add the vegetables then meat after 9 monthsof age. We did not recommend cows milk until after, well after, a yearof age.... high salt...and often not well tolerated. Asian babies had a real

hard time with dairy products. Also, use a food mill and cook, take out babies and put it in the milland strain it, before you season the food.... then baby will not get used to all the salt and sugar, in todays diets. We never recommendedbaby food. Also, we did recommend a soy formula if mama dried upor did not have enough breast milk for baby. Prosoby and Isomil come to mind as soy formulas.... I raised my own kinds on the same methods and have recommendedthe same to many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.Also we did not recommend the piercing of ears or the removal of foreskins on children. Many baby girls came in with earings, and a few baby boys also, believe it or not. The children, boy children, could be cut later on if they hadproblems that need surgery. But routinely cutting a foreskin made as much since as removing finger nails. Soap and water works

I guess

it is because I was a Le Leche Leader for years and that was never ever on the

radar of giving children cornsyrup. As a military wife I would not be pleased

with someone pushing corn syrup let alone putting it in every bottle of

formula! She is breastfeeding and that is what GOD intended babies to drink not

high fructose cornsyrup with nasty formula. Bloody diarrhea is something to

look at and is not just constipation in my opinion. I have had this before as I

have raised 4 kids 12, 8, 3.5, and 2 yrs old and I’m still breastfeeding

my 2 yr old. If you would have told me to do this on a military facility I

would have told you, you were crazy. A baby that is exclusively breastfed does

not have constipation very rare. It is when people start introducing formula

and all kinds of other stuff. That is why God gave us breasts to feed our

babies. Here is resources that she should be reading. As you could see she is a

Weston A Price person and WAP people don’t use corn syrup. If she would

only just breastfeed and not give her baby anything else the constipation would

clear up on it’s own. The baby is constipated because you are giving it

something unnatural to it’s digestive system. I don’t think you

would give a cow corn syrup for constipation. The cow drinks it’s mother

milk just like a baby should drink it’s mother’s milk. Why would

you give it to a baby. I invested in a breast pump when ever I could not feed

the baby the breastmilk was pumped and put in a bottle for the baby to drink in

my absence.

This

is a myth- Cereals are often suggested as a way to

fill baby up, lengthening the interval between feedings, and even sleeping

longer at night. This " filler fallacy " is

an unwise feeding pattern. Cereal is not nearly as nutritious as breastmilk.

Besides, this practice rarely works.

Obviously

I don’t agree with Dr. Sears on everything but he has a lot of good info

as I don’t believe babies should be fed formula and I believe breastmilk

is the perfect food for the 1st year.

Most mothers want to introduce solid foods as soon as

possible....Why I never did figure out....

Many want to start with rice cereal at as early as 6 weeks....

Breast milk is all that his needed for the first 6 months....

Then usually cereal, often rice....

then a green vegetable, such as beans. Feed each vegetable for

one week. Then introduce a new vegetable each week. If the child

seems to be allergic or not tolerate the introduced vegetable stop

it, continue out the week in what the child can tolerate and try a

different vegetable the following week. Babies will often be awake

during the night. Babies fed rice cereal may sleep during the night

but at what expence....

After six months slowly add the vegetables then meat after 9 months

of age. We did not recommend cows milk until after, well after, a year

of age.... high salt...and often not well tolerated. Asian babies had a

real hard time with dairy products.

Also, use a food mill and cook, take out babies and put it in the mill

and strain it, before you season the food.... then baby will not get

used to all the salt and sugar, in todays diets. We never recommended

baby food. Also, we did recommend a soy formula if mama dried up

or did not have enough breast milk for baby. Prosoby and Isomil come

to mind as soy formulas....

I raised my own kinds on the same methods and have recommended

the same to many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

Also we did not recommend the piercing of ears or the removal of foreskins on

children. Many baby girls came in with earings, and a few baby boys also,

believe it or not. The children, boy children, could be cut later on if

they had

problems that need surgery. But routinely cutting a foreskin made as much

since as removing finger nails. Soap and water works everyplace else, why

not on a foreskin, but that is for another post....

I'm sorry that your li'l guy is suffering.

My guess is that he's getting too much calcium (which can be

constipating) and not enough magnesium. From personal experience,

magnesium helps to loosen stools (as well as extra vitamin C). Excess

protein is also constipating, so perhaps you should cut back on the

eggs since he's getting plenty from the goat's milk. With my 2

year-old ds, I find that increasing his CLO intake also helps to keep

him regular (he normally gets 1/8 tsp./day, any more than 1/4 tsp.

sends him in the opposite direction).

You could also try castor oil packs. I've never tried this but I

thought I'd throw it out there in case you're interested, although, it

might be difficult to keep in place for at least 20 minutes. You could

also try glycerine suppositories which would at least help him pass

stools with less discomfort until he normalizes. Poor thing,

especially if he's got a fissure. Keep a close eye on that, as someone

here mentioned before.

P.S. As for increasing milk production, I was never a big producer

when I breastfed my sons until I drank Mother's Milk tea. The main

ingredient in the tea is fenugreek.

Thank you everyone for your support! I need it in this time of stress. As for the egg i have only given that to him 2 times soi dont think that is the problem and as for the clo ive given that to him about 5 times...the good thing about clo for him is that he doesnt puke when i put it in his bottle so i think that is helping his acid reflux which is still bothering him. I dont know how he would be getting too much calcium since im not on a supplement and goat milk shouldnt have too much i dont think. I am drinking raw milk again but stoped for about 2 weeks and it didnt make him poop more being off eggs or milk. he gets about 1/4 of a teaspoon on clo daily but it is more a recient thing. It is soooooooooooooooo frusterating having a child with so many problems when i thought i did everything right during pregnancy. I hadent heard of weston price yet but i was on only organic everything. Him and i have had the hardest time since he got here. I just feel so

helpless and im loosing creditability with my husband everytime i try something new on him. I'd like to be able to support you more with this. I have a SIL who also

had the same experiences as you but she wouldn't listen to anything but

what her Doctor said. So she wouldn't breastfeed, they put him on a soy

formula and he had acid reflux that developed into GERD...Life is

difficult for her now but she won't listen to anything but what the

Doctor says...

Just explain to your hubby that you need to keep trying to find

something that will help poor baby. Baby's have different needs and

there are those super sensitive ones who react to different things.

Hey, We do not have alergies that i know of to gluten...except for since ive been off unsprouted wheat for the last 2 weeks i tried a piece of organic wheat bread the other day at my moms house cause she had nothing else to eat...and i got instant acid reflux from it. so im thinking that is something that was always there but i never noticed it.
