Guest guest
Welcome Jo, Kinders is a new breed for me. What do they look like and how would their milk compare to Saanens or Nubians? Do you have a website with a picture? Thanks Langlois Jo wrote: -- Hello, my name is Jo Bolin and I joined the group a few days ago. We have a hobby farm located in MN. Currently we raise two types of goats Dwarf Nigerians and Kinders. Both of these breeds are awesome to work with. they produce a high fat creamy milk that is sooo yummy. We think they are especially good for families with children. Last year we advertised on realmilk.com and sold milk to several other people in our area. I was very surprised at the response I got. I believe I had 30 people on our waiting list. I am thinking about selling milk again next year. We had to take a break to have a baby (our third) and it's been difficult to get back into a milking schedule. The goat milk is wonderful and we all miss it. I've started a blog about our goats and our farming practices and hope to have a website soon. I am an enthusiastic supporter of raw milk, breastfeeding and keeping a home dairy. p.s. Laudo Deum (Loud-oh Day-oom means "We are praising God" and we do-for the raw milk and for the people who believe in it. *~*~* Jo & Pete *~*~* @ "Laudo Deum" Farm kinderfolk_n_liddlebudscharter (DOT) net Raising quality Kinder and Nigerian Dwarf goats for small acreage farmers, homesteaders and families with young children. Guest guest
Hi , Kinder milk is of excellent quality. The kinder is a cross between the Pygmy and the Nubian. Both of these breeds have a high fat milk. Some people have said that pygmy milk is as much as 12 % fat. The kinder falls between the Nubian and the Pygmy. According to Pat Showalter 6.5 to 7.0 is very common and some milkers have higher values. The cheese making qualities of Kinder milk is apparently better that other breeds as well. I'm not a cheese maker so I'm not sure what that means-just reporting what I've heard. Their milk is the best tasting milk we have had. It is thicker and creamier than Nubian milk and we get a fair amount of cream when we let it rise. Because of the amount of cream in the milk it is more resistant to picking up odors and the dreaded " goaty taste. " The Kinder is a small goat. None of my does are over 75 pounds. Small goats make easier handling for women and kids. They are more muscular and have good butchering qualities. In fact they are often billed as a dual purpose goat. http://laudodeumfarmholisticgoatcare.blogspot.com/2006_02_01_laudodeumfarmholist\ icgoatcare_archive.html Take a look at my blog. I've got a number of pictures and little bits of info about Kinders in it. *~*~* Jo & Pete *~*~* @ " Laudo Deum " Farm kinderfolk_n_liddlebuds@... Guest guest
We always use a Pygmy buck on a Nubian doe. The other way around is not to safe for the pygmy doe. *~*~* Jo & Pete *~*~* @ " Laudo Deum " Farm kinderfolk_n_liddlebuds@...
