Guest guest
Hi I work full time and then some. But, even though I would not say I am anywhere near " remission " and still flare and have aches and pains and no spikes in 2 months. I am under what I consider " control " . My anemea has been out of control but we are working on that. Luckily my spikes usually take place in the evenings and make me foggy and put me to sleep. My boss has been very supportive and gives me the opportunity to WFH (Work From Home) when the need arises. I am in an IT job and the technology is available. I use a laptop connected using VPN to the company systems and it has VOIP capability so that when connected, if my work phone rings, it connects to me through my computer. Most of my phone contacts never even know if I am in or out of the office. Since most of my job is done through the computers it works well for us. Just an aside, my boss is extremely understanding because last year she was on disability for colon cancer (at a very young age). While she was out, she left me in charge. When she came back to work she started (and completed) chemotherapy so she had lots of BAD days and doc visits and WFH herself. Tom from PA ps I a a middle manager working for a Fortune 500 company with almost 50,000 employees. We are in Health Care and I think, in general, the company makes a genuine commitment to treating employees with respect. Of course, some managers are more respectful than others. -- In Stillsdisease , Heavin wrote: > > Hi All, > I was wondering how many people here work full-time & how many are on some kind of full disability or partial. Guest guest
I am in Spokane, WA. I came here to be in the Athletic Training Program. Since my first year in 2004, when I was diagnosed I reduced my class schedule, then dropped out of the program, then reduced my class schedule more, and finally said no, goodbye. I live here simply taking care of myself and enjoying life. I am considered permanently disabled according to my health insurance and my parents are my sole providers (I am 20). There are days I too wonder if I could take some classes, and then there are days that I know I would be nuts to turn back to all that stress. It is not that it is too challenging...that has never been the problem...it is that it is just too much. There are only so many hours in a day and so many days in a month: I have to get up an hour before classes so that I can take the Protonix 1/2 hour before breakfast and mornings are enough of a hellish experience without that extra hour to get ready cuz after making breakfast I need a breather. I have a primary doctor that I see once a month. I see my Rheumy once a month. I have Pain Management on Wednesdays. I go to the pharmacy once or twice a month. I get a massage (prescribed and literally needed) once a week. I see my chiropracter (needed and prescribed) once a week. I go to the grocery store twice a month. I refill the pill container, shower, clean a bit, check my emails, and the list continues. How can I do all that and more and still go to school or work. I need to rest for at least 1/2 hour to 45 minutes after a shower cuz it was so exhausting. It is just so hard right now. It has proven too much for me. I don't know how much time I have on earth, but I would like to enjoy it: I drive to different places on different parts of water and I sit. I watch and listen. I watch sunsets. I watch birds fly. I watch water flow. I take time to smell the roses, literally. I read. I play my guitar. I hang with friends. I just try to enjoy this life. We only get one chance. What are you going to do as you live your life, which is much shorter than you may realize? Guest guest
Hi I still work full time, but I'm lucky to have a job that allows me a lot of flex time. I can work from home, or spread my work week over the weekend and just work in 5 or 6 hour segments. Even so, some days I really feel defeated... too exhausted or in too much pain to work efficiently or effectively. I've thought about looking into disability too, but every time I think about starting the paperwork process I just get overwhelmed. I HATE the thought of giving up my job, especially since I've been on a really strong advancement track for the past six years that is finally going to pay off with my " dream position " if I can just get my act back together. There are just so may " if's " with this disease... how can you decide? in Maine > > Hi All, > I was wondering how many people here work full-time & how many are on some kind of full disability or partial. > There have been a few days where I felt like maybe I could go back for 1/2 days or some sort of reduced schedule but those are few & far between. Guest guest
; Wow awesome just awesome!! Before I became to sick I was living the rat race and losing LOL. Now I to get to smell the flowers and enjoy life. when I first became ill at 41 I had given up every thing I enjoyed ,major out doors person here every thing from photographing flowers to mountain biking, fishing ,hunting training hunting dogs ect. Like you I to give him all the credit not only to why I enjoy being alive but to even still being here. See I know he is not done with me yet. I think of going back to work and have tried and could not make it. Some days I can still run with the big dogs and other days the old lazy dogs leave me in the dust. Guest guest
Full time disabled now. Tried to go back to work and could not deal with the extra stress and pain it caused. Tried to work before when first ill. Gave up all things I enjoyed and just worked and slept. Once I stopped working the ex threw me out (I know how abused woman feel as that is how I was treated) as I could not give her money any more. Funny part is with out her my stress has never been as bad as it was with her LOL. But nope do not work any more. Would love to but most likely will not be able to again Hugs all Marty Disability Question Hi All, I was wondering how many people here work full-time & how many are on some kind of full disability or partial. There have been a few days where I felt like maybe I could go back for 1/2 days or some sort of reduced schedule but those are few & far between. I've had such a rough time with AOSD most days I wonder how I can go back to that high-stress job when I can barely move to get my rear out of bed. Anyway I was just courious. The company I'm at has Long Term Diability benefits but I guess it's very rare anyone ever gets it. They make the employee see the companies DR who 9 times out of 10 deny's the disability saying the person faking or isn't as sick as stated by the other Dr outside the company. I believe a few lawsuits have happened over this. Has anyone else run else had any experience with this? Any information would be appreciated if your want to share if not I totally understand! Thanks for your time!!! Chris _____
