Guest guest
I'm sure you know your daughter's needs best. But I do want to add that we have a well-known opthamologist here who doesn't know squat about the vision tracking and processing issues related to autism. Just wanted to throw that out in case the vision specialist you saw wasn't well-versed. I've met a couple of parents locally who saw this doc & felt all was well then saw a good developmental optometrist & realized the first doc didn't understand the problems, like with prism lenses, Irlen filters, the brain converging both eyes' data, etc. Again, I'm sure you know her issues best. Sounds like your daughter is in excellent hands! Debi --- In Autism_in_Girls , " axlmjfee " w
Guest guest
I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with their children being on Zoloft and if so, have they had any negative side affects? My son had been on Prozac for years and recently switched to Zoloft because he was unable to tolerate a dose of Prozac higher than 10 mg. He has been on 50 mg of zoloft for 2 weeks (prior to that was 25 mg for 1-2 weeks). I have noticed a huge increase in his irritability and level of frustration. At the same time...summer has less structure, we went to the OCD conference which brought up some things and had a vacation that was fun but may have been just too much for him. I am trying to factor all these things in. I realize any of these things could cause heightened symptoms, but I am concerned about the medication piece. Any insight that anyone out there has would be greatly appreciated!! Connecticut
Guest guest
Hi , My 13 yr old daughter has been on zoloft since she was 5.She is a moody child(misdiagnosed with bipolar)I do think the zoloft has something to do with it. I have tried to wean her off several times, and she ends up having anxiety attacks, and her ocd worsens. Her ocd is pretty much under control with the zoloft. My son cannot take zoloft. He goes off the wall. It's really hard to say what med will have what affect on each child because they all respond so differently. It could just be a combination of the zoloft and like you mentioned the vacation, summer, less structure. I would personally give it a couple of months. hugs judy ________________________________ To: Sent: Sun, July 25, 2010 7:42:07 PM Subject: zoloft  I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with their children being on Zoloft and if so, have they had any negative side affects? Guest guest
Thanks for the input. It is reall so much to consider. He has had negative reactions to medications in the past which is what worries me. I have a call in to the psychiatrist to get his take on it as well. Guest guest
Our dd has taken it in the morning and in the evening and has not had a problem. I think she will just have to try it. As for the drinks to mix it in, tell your friend to check with the pharmacist. I would think they would know if the diet Sprite is ok. We used OJ when my dd was taking the liquid form. Guest guest
Zoloft can be a little activating at first and so I think it may be best to start it in the am. I don't think it matters whether it's with food or not. Bonnie

My daughter is 9 years old has OCD and is extremely gifted. We have now discovered she has OCD. She was on Prozac and Resperdiral to no aval. They switched her to Zoloft. Please give me some advise on the meds which have been prescribed. Please also give me your input in regards to being gifted/ocd, do they run hand in hand? Guest guest
My daughter is 12 and takes Zoloft (since Sept). She has " just rightOCD " and she is also Dyslexic along with being gifted. My info may not help....... Â She just got her report card Monday, two of her grades dropped. I personally am not worried but her teacher is freaked....they really should worry about the kids that NEED the help not my daughter who normally gets the highest scores in the class. Â I do believe that the Zoloft is somewhat to blame but we were doing alot of adjusting the dose, now we found what works so things are much better. But on the other hand I cant imagine what goes on in her brain in a day and schoolwork may take a backseat to the OCD sometimes. My daughter NEEDED the zoloft to get through the CBT and now our goal is to get her off slowly so she can be independant. Â I would suggest starting the medicine at a low dose then increase slowly. My daughter was in a medication study so we had to do what the program was and it was a fast increase of 25mg at a time and she actually went Manic from it a few times but like I said, we found the right dose for now and she is back on track. Guest guest
No, OCD and gifted don't necessarily go hand in hand.. But it is common.. My daughter with severe OCD is not gifted.. But my other two girls who have OCD (not severe) are gifted... They all have Asperger's, which also commonly goes along with giftedness (but not always). Anyway, I have two daughters on Zoloft and it has been wonderful for them. Gave us some much-needed peace.. especially for my daughter with severe, debilitating OCD. Ugh.. I shudder to think about how she used to be. Misty ________________________________ To: Sent: Wed, February 2, 2011 10:09:51 AM Subject: Zoloft  Has any of the parents tried Zoloft? Guest guest
Hi Laureen, My son was diagnosed January of last year with OCD/contamination type. He was put on Zolot 25mg and increased more quickly than usual to 50 and then 75 within 3 months. It allowed him to do the CBT and he was symptom free in about 9 months. He just started his tapering off. He did not experience any side effects that we are aware. There isn't suppose to be drowsiness or wt gain with it. So, it worked for us. Just prayin it stays away...good luck to you and your family. Leanne in WI > > Has any of the parents tried Zoloft? Guest guest
I should add or clarify that he was on Sertraline, which is the generic of Zoloft. As far as gifted, our son is getting A's in all of his classes including advanced math and reading. His IQ was tested in '07 and he at 137 at that time. You'll find that most with OCD are bright. --ls in WI > Hi Laureen, > My son was diagnosed January of last year with OCD/contamination type.
