Just thought I'd introduce myself here- My name is Tara, and my husband and I, and our 4 kids live in Western WI and just started organic dairy farming in the beginning of April. Things have been pretty rough to start! We bought a herd of cows that had CRAP for information on them. We (according to the guy's info) should have had 17 cows freshen in May- we had 3! There are cows in the "dry cow field" that are in heat, and should be dried off before calving- according to his notes, etc. so... we basically have a MESS and we NEED 15-20 more organic cows within about 2 weeks or we're going to have to sell them all to pay off our debt to the bank. The problem is, we can't FIND any more cert. organic cows!!!! If ANYONE knows of anyone who is looking to sell any, PLEASE have them email us, or call 715 772-3241. Oh, and we don't need any more 3 titters- we have PLENTY of them all ready! LOL We also need good producers- we have some that are slacking in that dept. I am also looking for other options,or opinions on what we can do- if there are any besides selling them all. We have NO CLUE of what we're going to do if we do sell them all- we will have no source of income any more, my husband was a diesel mechanic before farming, and he HATED it and will not go back, so... we're stuck! We have twin boys that were born in Oct. '05, and an almost 3 year old. Daycare is NOT an option, as it would kill us! If anyone has ANY kind of thoughts- anything at all to throw at us, we are VERY OPEN to suggestions!!! I hope to find this board very informative! Thanks!
