Guest guest
Kassi thanks to also show of the other side the side I to not understand much of or have the retention to know of or remember of it always, it is of sad that some feel so overwhelmed by autism that they end of thems child and or thier lives. it is of sad. but what is of also sad is the judge rothenborg? center that shocks kids into compliance that is of sad as these kids are to me tortured daily in the name of professional treatments that holdno value or dignity to the individuals and these kids have no voice at all none fighting for them and yet society accepts this treatment or it would surely have been take down much time ago.
Guest guest
Kassi, I read your eulogy for McCarron and was deeply moved. It's a horrible story. And now I know who Tepper Singer is and therefore understand your anger because I remember the horror I felt watching her speak in that video I viewed shortly after my daughter was diagnosed and I went home and cried to my husband about this horrible thing this woman said. I am sure she must regret it? Anyway, I thought Oprah's show was better than most have been lately and it is about awareness and her show reaches a huge population. With enough awareness maybe changes will start to come in how we vaccinate and educate. Let's hope! -Dana Priscilla's mom > > > > > > > > > > > > > Please flood this message board about what > > has > > > > > > > happened to your > > > > > > > child..illness ...mercury/porphyri ns, > > immune > > > > > > > issues/allergies, > > > > > > > inflammation. ...regression, pain....GI > > > > > > issues..the > > > > > > > whole gamut- > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > The Faces of Autism > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > http://boards.oprah.com/WebX/.f151133!DYNID= > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >__________________________________________________________ > > > > > > 8:00? 8:25? 8:40? Guest guest
I'm new here, but wow at the hostility! I'm sure you're probably all aware of the DVD Souls, but if you're not it shows the beauty to me. While I love my daughter and am grateful for all that she has taught me, I'd give anything to have her be " normal " so that she could enjoy life's greatest moments like marriage and children and so that she could speak because I know life is more frustrating for her than it is for us. While I recognize the beauty and that everybody knows about autism now, the fact is that we still don't know why or how to stop/prevent it. The awareness needs to continue until as much if not more money and time is devoted to it as AIDS, cancer and everything else that isn't as prevalent as autism. That's just my two cents. Guest guest
I think that if anyone wants to SHOUT, then they should shout on this website, because they can't do it in public. Everyone is always so PC, this should be the last place for PC. We should support each other, but not to the point of whining agreement with all that we might disagree with. If there is a girl/woman with autism on this website, I want to hear what she has to say whether it is shouting, whining, agreeing, complementing, informing or whatever. Please don't stop shouting, anyone and everyone, let the feelings show in your words. Mara H. > > Hi everyone...I rarely post but I do read here and there when I can. Guest guest
My point was that I don't think there can ever be too much awareness. As for the cancer comparison, don't lecture me about it killing. I know, my mother died from it a little over a year ago. For you, there may be enough awareness because obviously you are able to communicate and live a fulfilling life. I have a child who still wears diapers and has never said a word, so I'm sorry but until she has a chance at a somewhat normal and productive life I will fight for more funding and more awareness. Comparing yourself to other people with autism is like comparing apples to carpet. They're all totally different. I'm only addressing the awareness, not anything else. Guest guest
Kassi I to be of you friend but lack what to do when the words change and go to words that seem threatening in natures. I to lack why and not understand of it much so I to stay of silent to it all. I to know that on many things you and me are of same thinking and yet in some we are of not and this is of okay as to me it does not impact of the thinking i to have of you in friendships. we broh have os spectrum and while much different levels we still are of connected by spectrum and female issues. Bestesxt of friends dont always be to agree to everythings because they come from different learnings, understandings, teachings, exposures and experiences that is of all it is ot be is different perspectives. While maybe of 1% of all families will harm of thier child to the point of taking of the life, I to feel it is still too much but the fact is to be not all feel or will react this way and yet we need to be of proactive for all who exist today in teh world who are dx with autism in ways that do promote of dignity for all of them regardless of where they are to be on teh spectrum. I to agree to that. Yet from being oa a person on spectrum whjo is of also mom to kids on spectrum I to have learend fo some parental views too and so can relate to much of the over all fears, frsutrations and such some families are consumed by in trying to reach of thier child of autism. I too do not search for cure but can understand why some feel this way in thier hearts and can respect of their thinkin g and views even if it does not match ofmy own complete views of autism. tehre are days I too wish did not exist because of the autism and other days am of okay to self in it. some days I to hate the monster that autism is in me and other days embrace the gifts autism does bring to me at times. Yet the way Autism has molded the life of me over the life of me it is of who I to become and to be of anything differnet would to be to me as if the being of me was exchanged with a stragner person, an unfamilar being existing within me. as a cuban author to shared I yam what I yam for him it was being of cuban for me it is of being Sondra who happens to live and exist with autism being a part of me. Yet will sahre the words when they go to places that trigger me it causes me to be of silent and for that I to avoid words to it but this day readed of you words and hoped you did not think of me as a traiter to you in this but fearful of the words so avoid them to some topics that seemto cause teh word patterns to cahnge to many and so it confuses of me.
Guest guest
while this is of true to america it is of also prevelant to all Societies, Black africans also enslaved other black africans as well, look at the Rawanda incident, Other cultures as well came to africa to steal of the people for the sole purpose of enslavement, but I to think America was the first to rectify and change that as a forbideden and many other countries and states followed suit. I toaso be to know in Cuba many are oppressed but the stigma of various cultures still are rampant there too. The jews are of a people many try to destroy and slaughter simply due to being born a jew sad to me. As I to see all Humans as an equal in life a no one is of greater or lesser but society of all lands try to dictate a beleif to certain cultrues that is of unfair. In some cultures babies are left to die as they are wrapped tightly and disgarded in the fileds to be to starve to death or be of eaten by beast of the land so the thinking that this is an american issus is not of complete a true thinking , yet we as americans do have our issues as all lands and cultures do. Right now my interest is cuban hisotry and so have been reading many books on the topic to learn of various cultures and the oppressions of various peoples due to teh life of the land in which they were of born. Guest guest
Oh what wonderful posts we are having on this topic! I am loving that everyone is getting their emotions out and we are apparently feeling safe to do so. I hope no one is taking offense to various outbursts of emotion, because those outbursts really have nothing to with any ONE person except the person who feels those emotions. So I can see how each person's struggle or happiness or pain or anger is completely valid. I can see in each situation that each of you writes about that each one is VERY valid. I think that is why there are so many websites and blogs and youtube videos: we can't get enough because every single child or adult with autism is different and their experience is unique every single time. I know that every time I watch the shows or read your posts, I think, " Well, my daughter seems to be like that, " or " My daughter is really nothing like that. " and on and on and on. So I DO appreciate the diversity of emotions and experiences being posted here, this is helping me to try to understand where I stand on these issues as well as to try to be empathic with my daughter to figure out what she is really feeling.
