Guest guest
I wrote this on the Oprah board Through the years, I have realized that I have no idea what normal is. " They of course love her too. I do not know what causes autism and I probably never will. I do know that she has worked very hard to be able to effectively communicate with others, and at 7 she does so pretty good. She has taught me that communicating is much more than words, and the most profound things are rarely said aloud, yet heard deep within the vastness of our souls. I believe there is a reason for everything, so I chose, as a mom to an angel, to drop my judgments and naive ideas on what we are supposed to be like and what we are supposed to do in this life. Guest guest
, I am glad that you checked out the web site. I know first hand that dealing with this is not a " picnic " at all! The reason I suggested that we all write her is that all of us have a voice. Whether we agree with each other or not, we all need to speak! We do not know all the people who will be reading those posts. There could be something that triggers a doctor/researcher that helps all of us have better lives with our children suffering from autism. Since autism is a communication disorder, why not all of us communicate on behalf of what we all believe. I do hope that you will find some relief for all of what you are going through (sleepless nights & horrible schools). Just be comforted that you are not alone! There are many on this group and other groups going through the same issues as you are. Guest guest
THIS WOMAN HAS THE NERVE TO CALL HERSELF A WONDERFUL MOTHER! Families need support Posted by: maj649092 Posted on: 04/04/2007 at 12:00pm (156 of 397) When your child has autism, every memeber of the family is affected. Families need support, (councelling) and respite. Both parents and siblings need time away from the child. Time for themselves. You need to give yourself 'me time', 'fill up your cup' so you have more energy to give. This is very important, especially when one or both parents are likely to suffer from depression. So why is that so hard to do when you have an autistic child....... because you feel a sense of responsibility to your child. no one can look after him/her like you can. I understand completely. My name is a Dawes. My son was born with autism. In 2003, I was suffering deep depression, I wanted to end my life, but who would look after . It was my responsibility to meet 's needs. How would he cope without me? On the morning August 4th, 2003, my soul left my body. I did the unimaginable, I took my son's life. I then came very close to ending my own...... I have since met many parents of autistic children. I have been amazed at how much support I have recieved. Most have said, if they knew they were going to die tomorrow, they would take their child with them. 's death and my court case got alot of media attention. This subsequently brought more awarness of autism. Funding started appearing. People on waiting lists were finally getting services. My daughter and I still do media appearences. I don't do it for the money, as I cant recieve payment. I do it to help awareness and undertsanding of autism. I feel I owe it to . I can no longer help him, so i want to help others. Most of you reading this are probably parents of an autistic child. I have so much more I would like to say, but what I want to stress to you is the importance of support, councelling and respite. I hope my story can stop another tragedy from occuring. (Untitled) Posted by: embiscay Posted on: 04/04/2007 at 5:42pm (131.1 of 3) I don't know your whole story, and I try hard not to judge... I do not understand why you would be a free woman after you murdered your son -- just because he was autistic -- It is very sad this happened...and it is more sad it was allowed. (Untitled) Posted by: maj649092 Posted on: 04/04/2007 at 6:55pm (131.1.1 of 3) I will never be 'free'. I carry the guilt and responsibility for the fact that is no longer with me, and it's my fault. Many terrible things had happened to me in a very short period of time. What happened on Aug 4th was a result of depression. Therefore, I wasnt able to think clearly, otherwise would still be here. I was, and still am, a wonderful mother. My love for is why I couldnt leave him behind when I wanted to end my life. It wasnt about not wanting , or being exhursted by his disability. He is always present in my heart. Accually, I believe is the reason I am posting these messages. As I am in Australia, we get the oprah shows months after they air in the US. Therefore, I never open the emails about the shows. Last night, i did. And the show is on autism. I know there must be a reason for this. It may not be for you to understand, Maybe my message is for someone else. All I know is that I was complelled to tell my story. (Untitled) Posted by: embiscay Posted on: 04/05/2007 at 8:10am (131.1.1.1 of 3) I understand what being depressed is like. I suffered a terrible depression in my early 20s. I understanding having " life " kick you when you are down and then kick you again and how it feels to be in that spot. I understand what it feels like to be at the bottom and have hope so far away the feeling of it is not even remembered...let alone felt. I do not understand how even in the worst of emtional states a mother could kill her child. I also believe in forgiveness, and that we have the ability to rise up from even the most terrible places. How can one be forgiven before they admit what they did -- without the justifications? You tell your story to make yourself feel better and for people to say -- I understand why you killed your son. That is BS. You killed your son because YOU were depressed and being selfish -- Love is not selfish. You did not kill him out of love. You killed him out of FEAR. FEAR that no one could take care of him better than you. How egotistical is that. Fear that no one would, " love, " him the way you did. If he were not autistic you would be in jail. But, he was and so you were forgiven for what you did by your courts...and by society. That is what upsets me the most. Everyone has a purpose. > >Reply-To: Autism_in_Girls >To: Autism_in_Girls >Subject: Oprah Message Board-PLEASE WRITE THEM! >Date: Wed, 04 Apr 2007 13:43:01 -0000 > >Please flood this message board about what has happened to your >child..illness ...mercury/porphyri ns, immune issues/allergies, >inflammation. ...regression, pain....GI issues..the whole gamut- > > >The Faces of Autism > >http://boards.oprah.com/WebX/.f151133!DYNID= > > > _________________________________________________________________ Need a break? Guest guest
I'm referring to anyone who acts like autism is a tragedy that came soley to destroy their life. And who gets paid exhorbitant amounts of money to bitch about it. Kinda like Alison Tepper SInger does. I want that kind of salary to whine about things, I'd learn to smile and talk about kill-lists at the same time too. I might even learn to LIE for $125K/yr. I have as much right to be pissed off about all the autism crap being rich spoiled parents bitching about how their children destroyed their life as anyone else would have.
And I am 24, I am allowed to swear like a sailor if I want to. Guest guest
You know, it is really terrible how things get twisted around. No one will disagree with you here about the murderers! What I have a problem with is this. AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH is just what it says. I thank God for this month. Maybe some mom will not have to suffer like I did when I found out that had this. I had never heard the word autism 11 years ago and never saw " Rainman " . I actually thought my doctor said " artistic " ! What a horrible thing to find out what it meant and all the books at the time (at the library) were about " refrigerator mothers " ! Thank God for Maurice, bell Stehli, Bernard Rimland & others! There is hope. There are solutions. That is why I am glad that more awareness is out there today! Now, to address one more thing. Oprah is covering the effects on the families. THANK GOD! My own parents (a few states away) still believe that nothing is wrong with ! They only send her money in lieu of visits or actually doing something to help. I have my husband and other children for support. I BELIEVE FIRMLY that this subject needs to be addressed for the very reason you were bringing up. THE MURDERERS had no support! I am not a murderer nor will I be. I think more people need to know that families need help. I am a parent that needs help. More than what I am getting. You are an individual with autism. TWO DIFFERENT SITUATIONS. I am not saying that mine is more important than yours but today, someone is doing something about this and I AM HAPPY that someone cares!!!!!!!!!!! I needed to vent. Thanks for all those on this board that do indeed care. Shanna Kassi wrote: I'm referring to anyone who acts like autism is a tragedy that came soley to destroy their life. Guest guest
McCarron didn't LIVE with her mom. She lived with her dad and her grandfather in a different STATE, and both states had excellent services (I used to WORK in the services in the area where she was killed, and have a cousin 2 BLOCKS from where she was killed). Try again. We've had enough AWARENESS. Anyone who isn't aware by now lives under a rock. It's time to try ACCEPTANCE. Kassiane murder is murder, and Grandfather McCarron has said over and over it had nothing to do with services. Google it if you won't take MY stupid word for it.
