Guest guest
Hi Barbara, We very much like our Saanen and Sable Saanen dairy goats..they are easy to milk, gentle and very people oriented. The milk is heavenly and we are all drinking it daily and feeding it to the other critters here as well..A small goat herd that is healthy and housed in a clean enviorment will provide years of enjoyment and good milk....Also, this list is a great place to get answers if you have a problem or health concern about your dairy animal as most of us have owned them and have gone through the trails and tribulations of goat ownership.. You could also try the mini cows,,,,I have seen them and been around them and they are docile and super for that butterfat for the butter and cheese !!!! in PA
Guest guest
Is sheep milk like goat milk? If so you would have to use a separator to get enough cream to make butter but it would be very interesting experiment. Guest guest
--- Hi from a fellow Missourian. I live in NW, MO. I can remember trying to help my mom milk many years ago. I think milking is like horseback riding. You may not do it for a while, but you will always love it. My folks sold their farm when I was about eight. I didn't get a chance to have a cow until DH and I bought our farm. I immediately talked him into buying me a milk cow. I milked for several years until I entered college. Well, after twenty years I am back to milk again and loving it. I will be able to retire in three years. I can't wait to devote my full time to gardening and raising livestock, milking and making cheese. Best of luck. Guest guest
Hello Teddi I visited your web pages, and am so jealous ! ! We hope to someday do this ourselves, and are city folks starting late. I live in Minnesota, Minneapolis and would like to know if you ship here, or how far a drive it is? Or if you can suggest anyone closer. -Audrey <snippet> > > We have lots of personal anectdotes as to the wonderful benefits of > raw milk. Guest guest
Hello! My name is luise and I live with my young family in , BC Canada. We love Raw Dairy! My daughter who is 23 months has had some interesting health challenges, and since we started her on raw goat's milk she has really started to flourish. I am grateful for the difference that it makes in her well being. She loves going to pick up the milk, and asks for it. Before when I could only find organic pasteurized stuff at the health food store, she would never ask for it, and would only eat it on her oatmeal in the mornings. Now she just loves to have it! I am interested in knowing if there is anyone else on the group from the island? As we are new to using Raw Milk I would love to know how to make a few things, that you all probably make on a regular basis. For example. I just started making Ricotta cheese. Very simple and tasty. Any recipes to use the ricotta cheese in? Any other cheese recipes that you can pass along to me? How do I make yoghurt with goat's milk? I look forward to being in the group, and hope that one day I too may have our own farm where we can raise our own animals, and become more self-sufficient off the land. Thanks in advance for your posts! luise PS feel free to email me off list with the recipes if you would prefer not to clog up the board. Guest guest
Hi , Yes, that is the nature of the beast with ocd. It seems as soon as you have got one thing under control, something else pops up. At least your daughter is making progress with the hoarding! I wanted to mention that I have ocd as well as two of my kids. I am married with three children, and manage the household, work part time, etc. Your daughter can get better.!! Always have hope and think positively!!!( as hard as that can be at times) Welcome to the group!  You will find lots of support here! Hugs Judy ________________________________ To: Sent: Mon, May 3, 2010 10:30:31 AM Subject: Introduction  Hello, my name is and my younger dd, age 10, was diagnosed with OCD Hoarding in Nov, when she started therapy. In March she added hair pulling to her list. I have no idea if or when something new will pop up. We've been in weekly therapy since Nov and some areas are better but others are worse, like the new hair pulling. She has no eye lashes and a stripe through one eyebrow. But she isn't waking us up at 3AM because she MIGHT have thrown away something important anymore. I worry a lot about her future, will it be normal? Will she be able to get married and have a family, her dearest wish since she was 4? How is the kid's list? If it might help her talk to othr kids, I'll sign her up. Guest guest
Welcome, . You have a lot of responses, and I probably would just repeat what someone else said, but just wanted to welcome you to the group. Also wanted to encourage you that your child has a very good chance at having a good life, with the right therapy and possibly meds, if needed. Our son is now 18. I used to worry about the same thing when he was young. Still do, sometimes. But, he's weathered it all and is living the best life he can, excelling in some areas even.
