Medications

Hello everyone,

I would like to know if parents would be willing to share with me what kind

of medication, if any, their children may be on for a specific disability. I

would like to compile a list of medications that are used for my own

records. I am not asking for names of children, only the name of the

medication and what they are taking it for. I would like to be able to have

a list of commonly used medications, for certain disabilities, so that if a

parent comes to me and says The doctor wants my child on this med. we could

look at the list, they could then do their own research if they choose. But

at least they would know that this was not uncommon, I would like my parents

to be able to make informed choices!

Thank you so much for your assistance, and help. I do appreciate it!

This is a site where parents list all meds that their

kids have tried and their effects.

Hi Ann,

Our son currently takes the following meds:

Tofranil for sleep

Nexium for Reflux

Singulair for Allergies

soon to add Levsin for drooling

Supplements: Melatonin, Carn-Aware, Pro EFA and soon to be adding

probiotics and piracetem

He recently tried Robinul for drooling and it increased his secretions

and made him irritable.

He was also on REGLAN for 1.5 years only to find out that his leg and

hand tremors were being caused by this drug. Upon research we found

that Reglan is a drug with NUMEROUS CNS side effects, some of which

are irreversible. I don't know why they prescribe this drug at all,

much less to people who are already neurologically impaired. In

speaking to several pharmicists they agreed that is a " nasty " drug. I

would strongly advise people who are prescribed this drug research all

of the potential side effects, weigh the benefit vs. the risk and try

all other drugs available for reflux before using Reglan. Just my

opinion...hope this helps!

Krista-

Thank you for that response, I would like to add it to our note book. Of course

I will take your e-mail address off, and your name and 's! I'm very

impressed with parents who RESEARCH medications. So many of our parents don't do

that, and we're really not sure why!

Please think about letting me add your e-mail, I want other parents to see that

you should research these things. We have to question even our doctors. After

all, they too are olny human, and do make mistakes!

Thank you

Have a great day!

You are very welcome, Ann. And, you CAN add my email to the list. I

definitely believe in doing my own research on all medications

prescribed for as well as any procedures they want to do......as

you said, Doctors don't know everything and we have to be our

children's advocates. No one else is going to do it for us!

Good luck with your advocacy!!!
