Perhaps the baby doesn't like the smell of the deodorant and nurses less?  This is unusual as one would not expect such a dramatic decrease but also not such an instant recovery of milk supply.  I wonder how much the mother's perception could be involved.  Perhaps if you show her some graphics of how milk is made, she'd feel more relaxed knowing that the arm pit area shouldn't have an enormous influence.
