advertising it but I can't remember the phone number or the web site at the

moment. If i find it I will post it.

I give all my moms superbills, and they (if they choose) bill their insurance. So far I know all the BC/BS moms have been reimbursed because I get a letter back from the insco stating how much they paid -- which every time has been the amount I have billed.

Have no clue about other inscos since I don't get letters from them.

I had a mom ask me Thursday if I take insurance or bill to insurance. I told her nope – never have, never will. The Reimbursement sucks if they reimburse at all, and getting payment in a timely manner is a joke. Then she asked if I do a Superbill…nope – don’t do those either. In the past 5 yrs I have been asked all of twice for one.

Well, that made me think a bit. Maybe I should have a Superbill on hand for those who ask. Then I thought again – I know they were discussed at length here and there – but where would I get one? Thoughts?

Warmly,

Jaye

I charge by the visit too. I've been in practice since 1985, so have a little bit of experince with visits. Most visits run about 1.5 hours. A few are 1 hour, a very few run 2 hours. I have never had a visit go three hours (at least thus far -- never say never, but it has been 26 years) -- mom and baby both shut down by that time. So they average around 1.5 hours, and that is what I base my visit on.

I find that if the mom needs to talk, I need to listen without looking at the clock and ticking up the dollars that I am getting for it and mom isn't worried that the extra 15 minutes is going to cost her.

But -- YMMV.

Hi

I am interested in your comment about not charging by the hour but rather by the visit.........I know that different markets will dictate a different rate but do your clients mind that a visit might be an hour in some cases and three hours in others?? no comments on this? charging by the hour doesn't always work in my favour either for a lot of reasons but, of course our circumstances differ.....just looking for your experience on this and how you came to reach this decision.

thanks

Re: Insurance

I do hand out superbills. it doesn't take much work. I am not happy with Pat 's superbills because they assume a consultation time frame that is way too short from my perspective. I don't want a bill that charges by the hour. I charge by the visit. Furthermore, it lacked many of the diagnostic codes that I use. I was disappointed when I finally looked it up. I don't know what to do know that Carol Follingstad passed away. I'll probably end up doing my own.Best regards, E. Burger, MHS, PhD, IBCLC
