Guest guest
Are you on any preventive medications? They may stop you from haveing a bad attack. Ask your doctor about them. Every asthmatic should have an " ASHTMA ACTION PLAN " this is a plan on how to prevent an asthma attack, how to react when an attack happens and how to keep a diary to document it all. If you have a plan, you can treat the attack with a more level head. Here is a link to just one of the many asthma action plans out on the net, good luck. www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/dci/Diseases/Asthma/asthma_actionplan.pdf > > I have a question.... I have only had a few bad asthma attacks, so when I have one I get very panicked. Of course that makes it worse, but I am not sure how to stay calm when I can't breathe. Is there anything other than the inhaler to do to help breathe better before going into a panic? > > >
Guest guest
Yes, correct the underlying cause. > > I have a question.... Guest guest
I was on a ventilator too. This was in 98'. When I finally got off the prednisone I started to feel l like I was having an asthma attack in my throat ( closing up like you said) There was scar tissue in my throat from being intubated and that was the problem for me. I had to have surgery to remove the scar tissue and that problem was resolved. Tell your doctor about your throat and everything you have told us. The more info. you give him the better he can help you. Please let us know what happens today....Sharon In asthma , " Granada Family " wrote: > > well, i have been on my prednisone for the past week 20mg tabs. > > only suppose to be on the one pill per day, for the next 3 days but i still > keep getting short of breath. and my throat closes up on me. > > > i think i am afraid to end up in the hospital again. > > i was on a ventilator before, at age 37 and i don't want to repeat that. > > well, suppose to see the doctor today at 3pm, didn't sleep well last night > because of the prednisone so... > > just hoping praying that i get better soon > thanks for listening, > melissa >
Guest guest
ok, my appt isn't until 3pm cst so though it seems like my lungs are doing better today, i really think it is the weather messing with things. humidity doesn't help, etc but i will tell her and get back with you all. how long were you on the ventilator that it could give you scar tissue from it? melissa > I was on a ventilator too. Guest guest
Matt might have a different idea, but I use Robitussin CF for mine. You can get store brands most anywhere (the cheapest is Wal Mart's Equate, which is what I use) and they are just as good. It helps a lot. , Co-Moderatorrusselfan2006 wrote: I have a question.I have a cold and I really don't want to go to the doctor and I was wondering what the best cough medicine is to take because I am concerned that a lot of coughing will bring on an asthma attack.Any ideas?God bless you! __________________________________________________

Guest guest
Robitussin is fine. You can ask a pharmacist at any store and they can help. Robitussin comes in many formulas. Each to treat several different cold symptoms. I believe all have a cough suppressant in them. If you have itchy eyes and runny nose look for something with an antihistamine in it. If you have a stuffy nose and sinus pressure, look with something with a decongestant like Sudafed. If you have a build up of mucus (snot) in your chest get a medications with guaifenesin in it. As always drink plenty of water and get lots of rest. I hope this helps > I have a question.I have a cold and I really don't want to go to the > doctor and I was wondering what the best cough medicine is to take > because I am concerned that a lot of coughing will bring on an asthma > attack.Any ideas? > > > > > > > God bless you! > __________________________________________________ >

Guest guest
No. While allergies can cause wheezing, hayfever (also known as allergic rhinitis) is primarily a very unpleasant combo of severe nasal congestion and swellin/pressure, itchy sticky eyes, headache and coughing(from post nasal drip). Sue Question > Today done follow up /w allegiest. > > 2 part question: allergy: grass, weed, dust mite, cat, hayfever, mold. > any of these memic ashma attack.
