Are you on any preventive medications? They may stop you from

haveing a bad attack. Ask your doctor about them.

Every asthmatic should have an " ASHTMA ACTION PLAN " this is a plan

on how to prevent an asthma attack, how to react when an attack

happens and how to keep a diary to document it all. If you have a

plan, you can treat the attack with a more level head. Here is a

Yes, correct the underlying cause.

I was on a ventilator too. This was in 98'. When I finally

got off the prednisone I started to feel l like I was having an

asthma attack in my throat ( closing up like you said) There was scar

tissue in my throat from being intubated and that was the problem for

me. I had to have surgery to remove the scar tissue and that problem

was resolved. Tell your doctor about your throat and everything you

have told us. The more info. you give him the better he can help

you.Please let us know what happens today....Sharon

ok, my appt isn't until 3pm cst so

though it seems like my lungs are doing better today, i really think it is

the weather messing with things. humidity doesn't help, etc but i will tell

her and get back with you all.

how long were you on the ventilator that it could give you scar tissue from

it?

Matt might have a different idea, but I use Robitussin CF for mine. You can get store brands most anywhere (the cheapest is Wal Mart's Equate, which is what I use) and they are just as good. Robitussin is fine. You can ask a pharmacist at any store and they

can help. Robitussin comes in many formulas. Each to treat several

different cold symptoms. I believe all have a cough suppressant in

them.

If you have itchy eyes and runny nose look for something with an

antihistamine in it.

If you have a stuffy nose and sinus pressure, look with something

with a decongestant like Sudafed.

If you have a build up of mucus (snot) in your chest get a

medications with guaifenesin in it.

As always drink plenty of water and get lots of rest.

My pulmonologist advises Mucinex Dm. Works pretty well for me

All of them can be asthma triggers. I would avoid them as much as

possible.

No. While allergies can cause wheezing, hayfever (also known as allergic

rhinitis) is primarily a very unpleasant combo of severe nasal congestion

and swellin/pressure, itchy sticky eyes, headache and coughing(from post

nasal drip).
