Dear All,

I have a 24 year old, attractive student, working towards her PhD with me. She

is muslim, belongs to Bhopal and is from a fairly conservative background. Among

her relatives, educating a girl so much is not particularly approved of.

However, with her mother's support, she has managed to get herself registered

for a PhD and is working hard to get the degree.

Right now, she is under tremendous pressure to get married. So far, the people

who have come with proposals for her expect her to stay within the confines of

the house after she gets married. That is something that she would not like to

do, now that she will shortly be getting a PhD.

She has been working with me for more than three years, and is remarkably

balanced and mature. She has the famed muslim " tehzeeb " , and I find her very

affectionate.

She is the eldest of four siblings. Her father runs a restaurant. They are

middle class, and her mother tells me that they belong to the " Sheikh Pathan "

subsect of muslims.

Having watched her struggle to get herself a good education, to be able to

stand on her own feet, I would like to see her well settled, preferrably with

someone who recognises the worth of an education.

If anyone knows of any good, prosective groom for her, can you please let me

know ?
