Guest guest Posted October 27, 2006 Report Posted October 27, 2006 Absolutely. This can mean any of the following: -Pollen counts go up at night. Closing the window early in the evening might help. -Your heating system, which works harder at night, is blowing mold and/or dust around. Getting it serviced might help. -That's when something you ate at dinner, or possibly lunch, is finally getting into your system and setting off an allergic attack. When I was a kid I often had serious attacks in the middle of Friday night. It was from eating PBJ sandwiches in school lunches on Fridays. -Your mattress or other bedding contains house dust. A vinyl mattress cover can help. -That's when your meds are all wearing off. Talk with your doctor. -Nothing. That's a common time to have asthma attacks. This can make diagnosis difficult for doctors who only see you during appointments in the daytime. During an attack I've always found it very difficult to breathe while laying flat on my back, and I think that's fairly typical. > > Hi Everyone, > > I'm very new to having asthma, and I would like to know is it normal > for me to have asthma attacks at night? > It's getting so bad where I'm afraid to sleep flat on my back any > more. Guest guest Posted October 27, 2006 Report Posted October 27, 2006 I'm another on who can't breathe well lying flat on my back. Try sealing your mattress, box springs, and pillows in dust mite proof coverings. You may be allergic to dust mites which live in bedding and cause problems for some people. Wash sheets and blankets regularly with hot water. This may help. Take care, > > > > Hi Everyone, > > > > I'm very new to having asthma, and I would like to know is it > normal > > for me to have asthma attacks at night? > > It's getting so bad where I'm afraid to sleep flat on my back any > > more. Guest guest Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 I too have had asthma attacks at night, and it is scary. So now I just have a series of pillows to tilt me up a bit and I sleep more comfortably now. I was surprised, my back even feels better! Weird. When you are scared, you are scared and you just have to figure out a way to make yourself feel more comfortable is all. I have two down pillows and two regular pillows built up in a stack. I only get attacks when I have a cold, so it isn't probably necessary, but at this time of year I am stuffed up from allergies a lot so it gives me peace of mind. Quote
Guest guest Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 I have a question for the group here. I seem to have bad asthma flare-ups when the seasons/weather changes. Does anyone else have that problem? wrote: I too have had asthma attacks at night, and it is scary. So now I just have a series of pillows to tilt me up a bit and I sleep more comfortably now. Guest guest Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 Sleeping tilted forward into a pile of pillows works for me, too. I hope your down pillows aren't part of the problem, though. A lot of people are allergic to feathers. > > I too have had asthma attacks at night, and it is scary. So now I > just have a series of pillows to tilt me up a bit and I sleep more > comfortably now. Guest guest Posted October 31, 2006 Report Posted October 31, 2006 Yep, I'm missing school today because of it. I've been battling my asthma for several days now, and my ears have begun to hurt. I see my doctor tomorrow unless there's a cancellation later. Take care, Tena Lynn wrote: I have a question for the group here. I seem to have bad asthma flare-ups when the seasons/weather changes. Guest guest Posted November 1, 2006 Report Posted November 1, 2006 Respiratory and ear infection. YUCK!!! I'm on antibiotics and got a steroid injection to open my lungs. It'll mess up my diabetes for a few days, but I'll cope with that. no1friend621 wrote: Hi Tena Lynn, What can i help you with, if i can.... my name is Lin.. my son is a asthmatic... have a asthma free day. Guest guest Posted November 21, 2006 Report Posted November 21, 2006 Perhaps the asthma flare-ups has something to do with the oxygen (i.e. ozone) and particulates in the air. Do you notice any difference between indoors and outdoors? > >Reply-To: asthma >To: asthma >Subject: Re: Can anyone help me? >Date: Wed, 08 Nov 2006 05:29:39 -0000 > > >Does this asthma happen to be like your pretend heart attack or fake >daughter or your pretend anorexia, " Tena " ? > >Why don't you do these ppl a favor and leave them alone and quit joining >these forums as a way to garner pitty? Guest guest Posted November 21, 2006 Report Posted November 21, 2006 I see asthma flair ups, at the hospital, any time there is a significant weather change. The most common trigger is temperature change from warm to cold and visa verse. Another factor is the September Effect. This was first documented by a doctor in Canada researching asthma in school children. He found that there is a spike in asthma related symptoms at around the 17th day of school. He believes that the asthma is triggered by the sudden exposure to other children and the common cold virus they carry with them. The exposure is when the kids are confined to one room with children they haven't had contact with in months. Each has different viruses on them. The doctor also concluded that the kids most likely bringing this home to their family. The cold virus is listed as an asthma trigger on many trigger lists. > > > > > >I have a question for the group here. I seem to have bad asthma > >flare-ups when the seasons/weather changes.
