Guest guest
I feel sad when I see programs like " Extreme Makeover " . It is just encouraging people again that as they are is not good enough. People can loose weight and exercise or in situations that people have terrible teeth problems. But people have to learn to love themselves. Our society is into looking younger and to have a flaw isn't OK.. I think it is just very sad......no wonder so many people are so unhappy......ine
Guest guest
ine, You certainly brought up a good point here. I used to watch a lot of British television shows -- and my husband and I noticed that in England or on these tv shows, it seems that they use more normal looking people than American tv shows do. In other words, there may be an actress or actor who is exceptional over there, but may have crooked teeth, or some other physical flaw, and they are still on the tube or tv!! When we compared this to our American shows, more of the actors and actresses do not seem to be norma people in appearance, but are more like models or 'perfect' people. We found the British tv shows more interesting and more like " real-life " . When all we are shown is the picture perfect models as normal actors and actresses, it makes us ugly, but pretty people feel bad! Try watching some tv shows from the BBC or other british shows, and let me know what you think! Love & Hugs, PJ shreiman wrote: I feel sad when I see programs like " Extreme Makeover " . Guest guest
LeAnn, Thanks for sharing with us the other viewpoint of this issue -- hadn't thought of it quite in that way before. Appreciate it! Hugs, PJ LeAnn Kirsch wrote: Interesting topic ladies! I'm of a mixed stance on this. On the one hand, it seems superficial and trivial. And on the other, in some of the cases they've treated, there's been significant improvement and value and self esteem added to the person's life. Some folks had prominant physical problems with their teeth, lips, whatever, and the surgery made tremendous improvements. So maybe like so many things in life, there are good and bad points to be considered! Hugs, LeAnn Re: Extreme Makeovers ine & PJ, It is sad what the US culture has decreed as *beauty*. I have never watched the shows but I have seen the previews. Guest guest
ine, A lot of the BBC shows or British sitcoms are on the PBS channels (public broadcasting service), and on A & E (arts & entertainment) if you have cable. Hope that helps! Hugs, PJ Look for: " Mystery " (when it does come on)!! Includes: Campion, Sherlock Holmes, Inspector Maigret, Poirot, Miss Marple, Inspector Morse, etc. " Eastenders " (like a soap) " Are You Being Served? " (comedy sitcom) " Keeping Up Appearances " (comedy sitcom) " All Creatures Big and Small " (about country vets and the animals) Sorry, I can't think of any more of the shows right off the top of my head. Anyone else?! Thanks, PJ " shreiman@... " wrote: I have never seem BBC but I will check out and let you know. I'm not familiar with any British stations.
