There was a wealth of knowledge and insights in one room. Talk about experience sharing…so many great learnings. I am looking forward to the 2006 Annual Conference for the same reason. There are many RDI consultants whose ideas and opinions I have come to respect and value over the past year. I am grateful and excited for this forum that brings us all together. I also look forward to hearing what Dr. Gutstein has been working on behind the scenes. He always challenges my thinking, encouraging my professional growth. " - Talbot, M.A., Certified Consultant. The first is a very brief clip of Neely with his dad, practicing piano. In this clip, you're just going to see Neely motivated to be a good apprentice and to be able to be competent according to dad's careful guidance. You're not going to see a lot of laughter here; this is not about play and joy, this is a serious business. Remember, the motivation is competence and pride, not fun and games. From Chapter 36, Principle #4, Conduct Guided Participation DVD Preview: If you're interested in learning more about the DVD, view the video preview or see the DVD Release Notes and Unpublished DVD Index which appeared in recent newsletters. The five-hour Going to the Heart of Autism DVD can be ordered on-line from our secure, on-line store. -------------------------------------------------------------------- back to top -------------------------------------------------------------------- Dr. Gutstein Quotable We tell fathers that they have a choice. Their son can learn how to be a man from them, their wives, or someone like Marilyn Manson. I'm not knocking wives but they are not that experienced in apprenticing boys to become men. The dads understand what I'm talking about. Especially when we explain that they don't have to do complex activities or even play with their sons. Taking out the garbage together is a fine place to start. We make sure they understand that having their child as an apprentice does not mean getting something done, but furthering their child's feelings of competence. back to top -------------------------------------------------------------------- Going to the Heart of Autism Celebrating " RDI® Dads " From the very beginning the RDI® Program has been built on supporting and nurturing the foundations of the parent-child relationship, and many dads are excited to find the RDI® Program is a way to help the relationship with their child deepen and grow. The relationship becomes more reciprocal, more meaningful and more satisfying for both father and child. At our 4-day Parent Seminars, we average at least 90% father participation, and some of our Seminars have even had 100% of fathers in attendance! This week, as we approach Father's Day, we want to acknowledge and celebrate all the Dads who are involved in their child's RDI® Program. A special 'Happy Father's Day' to the following dads and to all the other " RDI® Dads " who are making such a difference in their child's life: • Dennis (Houston, TX) - " To a great single Dad. " • (ton, SC) - " Spearing waffles together. " • (Coral Springs, FL) - " , my love, you rock! " • (Keymar, MD) - " From here to independence with a lot of fun and bonding along the way. " • Todd ('s Dad) - " Dancing with Daddy. " • Vic (Ohio) - " The 'put-everyone-first' kind of man. " Consultants too, sent in stories about Dads! Due to time and space limitations, we selected just a few of the many we received: • Dean (California) - " If I have to change, I am ready to do it! " • Don (Michigan) - " Not afraid to keep trying things. " • Rob (Pennsylvania) - " RDI® - the best return on an investment. " • Tom (Michigan)- " A wonderful mentor to his son.
