Guest guest Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 The Apple program is at Rummel Creek elementary school and is specifically for autism. They also have a program specifically for Aspergers, but I don't remember the name of it. Sugar Land is opening a program specifically for Autistic kids too. ________________________________ From: Texas-Autism-Advocacy [mailto:Texas-Autism-Advocacy ] On Behalf Of ginam Sent: Tuesday, May 02, 2006 8:50 AM To: Texas-Autism-Advocacy Subject: Re: elementary schools in CyFair ISD There is not school by that name in the CY FAIR ISD that was listed on the website. elementary schools in CyFair ISD > > > > I am looking to put my son in public school next year. Guest guest Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 APPLE is actually in Spring Branch ISD, and there are 4 APPLE classrooms - 2 at Rummel Creek (one will be moving to another campus) and 2 at Buffalo Creek Elementary. The asperger's program is called AIM. , have you contacted Robin Wishkoski yet? I think she's an autism coordinator in Cy-Fair and she is also affiliated in some capacity with The Shape of Behavior/Domonique Randall. Guest guest Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 Are you just looking to compare, or decide where you want your child to go? Also, what age level? I may be able to help direct you to Special Ed. coordinators to get their opinions. May I ask what you home campus is? Guest guest Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 Every year , I check the option of public school for my son for consideration and I end up keeping him home instead. I am sorry but I have not seen anything that impressed me so far, and I am getting worn out doing it all alone. My home campus is Kirk. Guest guest Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 Rummel Creek Elementary School is in the Spring Branch district, noy the Cy-Fair district, and it is located about a mile southwest of I- 10 and Beltway 8 in west Houston. Guest guest Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 " Autism Pilot Program Launching Excellence. " The program is an eclectic one, incorporating elements of TEACHH and ABA. My son was in the program, and he is now attending a private ABA day treatment program. The APPLE program falls short of what you could expect in an ABA day treatment program (for example, the paras are not trained the way ABA therapists are, the consultant is in the district for only a few days each month, and some well-accepted ABA practices are poorly-executed, to name a few examples). On the other hand, the APPLE teachers I know are well-intentioned and hard-working. The district seems committed to making this program successful. This is the program's third year of existence, so I think it's more than just a pilot program, at this point. I have never asked to see the program's outcomes or the criteria for evaluating the success of the program.
