Hello Everyone. I was wondering where I could go to recieve ABA

therapy in houston. I looked at one a while back and I just can not

afford $4,000 a month. Is there any where else that I can recieve this

type of therapy for a little more inexpensive then this???? THANKS IN

ADVANCE I appreciate all the help that I can get. AND can my son start

recieving ABA therapy even if he has NOT been diagnosed just yet???

THANKS

I don't see any reason why your child can't receive ABA without a

diagnosis. It is behavior modification, and I use it on all my kids!

If you can't afford to send him to an ABA school, you could contact

the directors of the various ABA schools/programs and ask if they do

in-home consultations. They would guide your son's programs. You

would have to provide the therapists. The therapists would have to be

trained in your home to work with your child under the guidance of the

director. When we started ABA we were an in-home client of TYAP

(texas young autism project)so I know it is possible to get some

really good, reliable college students to work with your child. You

have to run it like a business, tho, or they will take advantage and

run late or call in sick, ect. I had one therapist stay with me for

almost 2 years. It is possible!

ABA day treatment programs are very expensive. We opted for a day-treatment

program for a few reasons: the program is staffed 1:1, the therapists are

carefully supervised by BCBAs, we have access to a BCBA to address problems

as soon as they arise, and my son gets to be around other children. Here

are some other ideas to explore:

1. Attend FEAT-Houston meetings and ABCs and 123s workshops. They won't

make you a pro, but you may be able to learn some things you can do at home.

http://www.feathouston.org/

2. Hire a BCBA to do some consulting for you. It's hard to know how to

begin when you start an in-home program, so a BCBA can do an assessment

(like the ABLLS), analyze behaviors, develop programs, and teach you the

basics, and if you hire a team of therapists, can help you train your

therapists.

3. Hire some therapists to work with your child. FEAT maintains a list of

potential therapists, but please be sure to screen prospective therapists

carefully and follow up on any references they provide. You can also

recruit college students and train them.

4. Consider part-time enrollment in an ABA day-treatment program. I don't

know if all the clinics offer that option, but I know BTTC does, and I know

Spectrum of Hope has a summer school program that's a half-time program.

5. Talk to your school district. They MIGHT have an ABA classroom or have

teachers trained in ABA, if you are lucky. And, if not, talk to them about

developing that option.

6. Check with your health insurance and/or your employer to find out if

they will cover any ABA.
