Guest guest
ramona, i like your idea. i think your two cents are purdy valuable. i agree that vendors here can provide some value wrt ideas which we can use, sometimes for free, which help us maintain and enhance low overhead practice. i am opposed to those who come barreling in here and insist that they're the best thing since sliced bread, and keep on and on, even when told, however politely or not, to shut up. maybe it could be along the lines of a cme conference, where the reps are kept outside, and one can interact with them if one chooses. to do it in the form of a separate page with a link sounds great. This may sound like I am being defensive but I really have nothing to sell. Sometimes I wish I did! Anyhow, I think we have all struggled with the financial woes of medical practice and some on the listserve have added “subscription models” or “medical spas” or lecture income to offset the high cost of doing medical practice in a more traditional way. (I have tried to do some weight management workshops in my efforts to make ends meet…) Others seem to have developed medically-related side businesses. Anyhow, if doctors who are entrepreneurial want to “peddle” their wares this may not be the venue, but let’s not throw out the baby with the bath water! I am not tech savvy enough to know how to create a link or how one could accomplish a virtual “vendor” booth for “IMPs only”. However, I would much rather “purchase” a service from a physician-vendor (than a large company who wants to take a piece of the medical dollar out of the hands of the providers). I have learned a ton about optimizing my website from the discussion prompted by one of these “vendor”s. So, there is some value there. How can we make it work? Just my 2 cents. Ramona Ramona G. Guest guest
I'm tentative about keeping the list totally " open " but also believe that any situation has real potential to benefit us all in ways we can never know beforehand. So I would encourage the list to remain open and see what happens. That said, let's all remember that Gordon is the " dictator " (I think Lou described that issue), so if anyone (doc, office manager, patient or vendor) started posting in a negative way (who knows how exactly?), Gordon should contact them with a warning and ultimately dismiss them from the group if necessary. I've been on the list from about its creation (only started posting after 1-2 years of tapping everyone's knowledge to fertilize my own) and have always liked our open-ness about ties to products and such (typically few if any of us have had any related to issues we post about). I think that should continue so a vendor/company rep is obvious to all of us. And we should read posts with a grain of salt. When we suspect someone is posting solely for their own benefit and not the benefit of the whole discourse, we should " call them on it " and ultimately request moderator to step in (ie - " Gordon, HELP! " ) so the list can get back to what it does best, discuss practice improvement through concepts tied to IMP'ing. ....just my 2 cents ...
