hello list ....

can you please tell me how you schedule your workouts? and from where you

find the motivation?

this may seem to be a silly question, but i'm VERY serious. my MIND obsesses

with doing the workout...i can't get my body to cooperate.

i keep thinking: i will workout in the morning ... afternoon ... after i

finish cleaning the bathroom .. as soon as i get home from work (i'm a sign

language interpreter, so that could be as early as 11 am), but as soon as the

'carrots' have been accmplished, i STILL don't do the tapes. something else

ALWAYS comes up!

i'd done them several times when i FIRST got them and LOVE them. felt

WONDERFUL! so, please, will someone tell me what's going on with me?

this list is so supportive of each other and my concern and question is not a

frivolous one .... i really need your help!

I was the same, I got the tapes and worked my little but off and

felt great and was actually getting fitter and felt stronger!!! Then I let

it go a couple of months and really paid for it cuz I put on some weight

that doesn't want to come off and I am pushing myself to get out of bed in

the morning to do my workout, I am trying to at least do the eight minute or

a basic video a day....

When you start thinking oh I should do the video, just do it, even if it

means just the eight minute otherwise you will be like me trying to give

myself excuses all the time... I am slowly getting out of that now.

<< can you please tell me how you schedule your workouts? and from

I don't schedule my workouts per se. Some days I get up and do them before

work, and some days I do them after work. The key for me is to not think too

far ahead. I think about today, and when I can fit in my workout. I don't

worry about tomorrow or the next day. I just focus on today. If I think " oh

I have to workou five times this week " I start to lose my motivation. But if

I think " I haven't worked out today. I'll do that as soon as I get home " my

frame of mind is much better. Just take it one day at a time. I still

sometimes lose my motivation and don't want to work out, then suddenly, I

can't wait to work out. When I feel like I don't want to work out, I just

force myself to push play, with the understanding that if I'm not motivated 5

minutes into it, I'll quit. I rarely quit, but sometimes I do. I don't beat

myself up if I do quit. I just try again later - possibly later in the day,

or the next day. Don't be too hard on yourself. Sometimes it clicks,

sometimes it doesn't. Just do what you can.

That's not a silly questions at all, and thanks for asking it cos I

seem to be have much the same kinda problem at the moment.

This is really frustrating me, cos I was doing so well, and had found

that the 'carrot technique' didn't work for me, but the 'look after

myself first' (by getting up and doing my workout first thing) was

working well. I just can't seem to get that back at the moment and

there's lots of possible little reasons, but nothing major. So I'm

not really much good for advice, except that perhaps you're not the

only one with a lack of motivation.

,

This is a tough one. I struggle with motivation all of the time and it is very difficult. One thing that has helped me is training for this marathon that we are doing. Training for an "event" helps me stay focused. Also, I think varying your workout might be a good idea. I think I reached the point where I was getting burnt out on Tae-Bo and Tae-Bo only. Throwing in different activities always helps with motivation. As for the time to workout, look at your schedule and each day make yourself an appointment to workout. For example, if you know that you have late meetings, etc., on Wednesdays, make Wednesday the day that you workout in the morning. Adjust your workout times week by week or day by day if you have to. Pick a time to do it, and just do it. Don't worry about cleaning the bathroom, or the dishes, or any of that. Have your workout come first. I hope that helps some. I know how hard it is to lose motivation. It happen!

s to me all of the time. I am in awe of people that can do Tae-Bo six days a week and not get bored or burnt out. As much as I love Tae-Bo, I get sick of it if that is all I do. Adding in other activities makes me appreciate Tae-Bo even more! Good luck!

I think its honest to say that most of us struggle w/ motivating our bodies

at some time or another but I can only speak for myself..I do my Taebo

workouts in the mornings before work..believe me, sometimes I'd definitely

rather stay in bed especially during the winter..but I make myself get up, or

else I just lay there and think about it, once I get up I immediately put on

my workout cloths, this motivates my mind that a workout is in store..then I

usually have some water and kinda stretch and workup my motivation and then I

get down to it, and afterwards I feel great..sometimes when I'm especially

tired in the middle of the workout..my mind says..You can stop early..but I

do self talk at that point, and tell myself that I need to finish..Once all

is said and done I am proud of myself for completing..It is true that you can

find 100 different reasons for not working out (laundry, work, tired, etc.)

but think about all the things in your life that you do find time for even

when busy..Start to think about the reasons why you have time to workout and

all the benefits it will bring...It truly is a mind set and it does take

dedication..there is No " well maybe " ..It has to be I WILL..Instead of

starting out w/ different workout times (ie: before work, afterwork, when the

bathroom is clean etc) try setting a definite time..for instance, I WILL

workout at 7am, no ifs/ands or buts..I prefer the morning cuz then I can

relax the rest of the day w/o thinking about it..On the other hand, I do my

weight training workouts at night..I don't have the energy to do those in the

morning b4 work..I already know that 1hr after dinner time, I will be working

out no matter what and I make it clear to my family that this is my time

(usually they all join in anyways and we do a group workout

session)...Anyways, don't be too tough on yourself..but as says..You

have to dig deep inside and pull from that..don't make any excuses and just

get down to business....

, There are two ways to approach scheduling you workout IMO. First are

the days that conform to a schedule (ie work or class). You get up at such

and such time, go to work or school, come home, fix dinner, tv, bed etc. Find

a time during those days thats best and and stick to it every workout day. I

just recently left my job to move but I would always start my workout in

between 6 and 6:15PM every day or in other words 5-10 minutes upon my arrival

home from work.

The other days which are more difficult are unscheduled days. Weekends!!!

After a while you wont need to schedule your workout because you will need to

workout and nothing else will feel right until you do. I would suggest as

early as possible. Maybe sleep in till 10 (I don't have kids:-) take an hour

to wake up and workout at 11. If this wont work for you tell yourself you

wont allow yourself to do certain things (like run errands, watch tv etv)

until you have worked out.

Thanks

I must admit find a great amount of 'me value' in working out when I

get up on Saturday morning, because I also have time to look after

myself fully after my shower instead of dashing off to work, it sets

me up good for the weekend.

I'm still trying to figure out why I'm in such a 'funk' at the moment.

That's the plan, and I've given my notice in as such, but the

I know how you feel. I've been having the same problems with motivation that

you have. When I first started Tae-bo I couldn't get enough. I was totally

motivated, then all of a sudden I couldn't find the time or energy to workout,

then the excuses started. I would keep putting it off until the afternoon

became evening and then the next day, then the next week etc. etc... I'm

finally getting back into working out, slowly but surely. One day at a time.

But the help and motivation that I get from everyone on this list has helped the

most.

I'm just taking each day as a challenge so I can take control of the journey and

not let the journey control me. I'm discovering that I'm enjoying life more

that way. I feel more in control of my life and I've been out of control for

more than 10 years now.

I came across the following quote hope it helps...

Many times the problems or challenges we face force us to

grow and become more capable. The runner who trains for the

mile run in the Olympics by running downhill will have no

chance of winning the medal. The runner who trains by

running uphill is far more likely to develop the speed,

mental toughness, and endurance needed to win the medal.

Message: The next time you encounter a difficult climb,

obstacle, or problem, you should smile and say, " Here's my

chance to grow. "

Take Care

Bev..

PS- Where in Pa do you live??? I live in the suburbs about 40 minutes outside

of Philadelphia.

, try to make exercise one of those things that " always comes up. "

That's how I treat taebo. I am going to do taebo 6 days a week no matter

what, just like I brush my teeth every day. Sometimes that means that taebo

knocks out something else (e.g., sitting with my husband and talkig,

socializing, cleaning, reading, ... ). I just make sure that I give taebo a

high priority in my life so that it trumps other things that come up. I just

tell people " sorry, but I have to exercise. " Of course, that's easy for me

to say since I work just one job and have no children and thus have more free

time. Can you give taebo high priority for 3-4 days a weeks? For some

people, weekends are good days to exercise because they have more free time.

My favorite time to exercise is late morning or any time in the afternoon,

but I usually just exercise when it fits best in my schedule (recently even a

few times first thing in the morning, ugh!). Good luck and keep posting here

for motivation.

Stick with this list and you'll find a great avenue of motivation and

support. I've only been back into the " swing of things " for about a month

but I feel like I have a stronger commitment not only to exercising, but to

leading a better quality life - physically, mentally and spiritually. I

" lurked " on the list for a few days and when I saw how many people were

actually going through what I went through yet being able to conquer the

" many reasons we find not to work out " , it made it so much easier.

Also once I started doing Taebo, I found I really started looking forward to

it, the more I did it. It is a great way for me to relax and spend some

quality time with myself <G>, and also get any frustrations out...sometimes

it feels so good when I do those roundhouse kicks!

Barb, you just motivated me to share. Today, I was feeling so sick and

drowsy from sinus congestion from the cold, rainy weather here that all I

wanted to do was sleep. Instead, I forced myself to go down to the basement
