Guest guest
Greetings, One client I am seeing with Lymphoma is receiving stem cell therapy via a blood transfusion which is scheduled for October. His oncologist told him this will give him a 50% chance of recovering from his cancer. After searching the web, it appears stem cell use for treating cancer is still pretty new. Has anyone got any links or information where trials have been conducted and 50% of the cancer victims got well ? I haven't been successful in finding stem cell trials where figures like this are presented. I hope the oncologist isn't lieing to my client. He may have used this figure to impress my client and to convince him to go on another massive dose of chemo prior to the stem cell transfusion. A local doctor has told me some doctors ramp-up the real numbers to improve the placebo effect of how their patients respond to drug therapy. Guest guest
I'm guessing your talking about an autologous transplant. Did have a bone marrow aspiration done? Or is he going for apheresis for the bone marrow harvest? Guest guest
With out knowing the type of lymphoma and stage, it's guessing at best. http://www.merck.com/mrkshared/mmanual/section11/chapter139/139c.jsp has a general write up. 30 to 50% figure is used for some. If you need more info I can send it to you off list since this is OT. I have access to HOLLAND-FREI CANCER MEDICINE - 6th Ed. (2003) and a couple of other oncology books this thursday and friday, let me know if your interested in more info. P.M. ( Marino) > Hello PM > > He told me he is receiving it via a blood transfusion.
